Overview

This position is responsible for field level and limited sustainment level maintenance of the 5 th Security Force Assistance Brigade’s armaments, to include, but not limited to: M4A1 5.56mm carbine, M2A1 0.50 cal. machine gun, MK19 40MM machine gun, M240B 7.72MM machine gun, M17 MHS, weapon mounts, and select accessories.

Responsibilities

In addition to performing all functions of Level I Gunsmith, the level II usually requires attendance at factory Armorer's courses of small arms in the arms room inventory, performs major repairs on domestic standard and non-standard small arms weapons, possesses excellent knowledge of gun-smithing tools and procedures, and possesses moderate knowledge of firearms operating principles and ballistics.

This worker has a thorough understanding of firearm operation principles, has a moderate knowledge of internal/external ballistic theories.

The Gunsmith II can perform as primary instructor on most standard and non-standard small arms weapon systems.

Additional responsibilities include the completion of all proper documentation, maintaining proper work area, serviceable tools, key control bench stock inventories, etc.

This position also will disassemble, repair, replace parts, clean, service, and reassemble a variety of automatic and manual weapons.

Performs repair work on weapon system components such as firing pins, springs, trigger mechanisms, shell ejectors, sights, bolts, stocks, hammers, barrels, solenoids, etc.

Technician might straighten bent parts, files burrs, performs precise timing alignment and adjustments.

Makes operational checks and test fires as required to assure accuracy, safety, and ease of operation.

Assists military unit personnel, inspection teams, and equipment specialists as required in all aspects of small arms repair, maintenance and problem solving.

Qualifications

Must be a U.S. Citizen or permanent legal resident with oral and written fluency in the English language.

Must possess and maintain a valid state issued driver’s license.

Must undergo pre-employment background screening and drug testing.

Must be able to obtain a DoD Common Access Card within first 90 calendar days of employment.

Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to interact effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

Proven problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to addressing challenges and finding solutions.

Working knowledge (proficient) of Microsoft Office 365(Word, Excel and PowerPoint).

Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

Physical requirements include (but are not limited to) the ability to lift, push, pull, a minimum of 40 pounds, stooping, bending, squatting, and reaching.

Preferred Qualifications:

Ideal candidate will have completed prerequisite training for Army Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) 91F2O/3O – Small Arms/Artillery Repair

Attendance at a formal one-to-two-year accredited in-house gun-smithing course or 2-3 years’ of Gun Smith II experience.

Knowledge of U.S. Army procedures and logistics information system

Be thoroughly familiar with the US Technical manuals (TMs)
