Overview Page is currently accepting applications for the Hamilton Fellowship Program. The program offers a one-year employment at Page dedicated to rigorous research investigations in the areas of health and wellness as they relate to the built environment. This position will be located at one of our participating Page offices with an ideal start date of June 2025. The Fellowship offers a unique opportunity to investigate cutting-edge topics in health and wellness research, with a focus on specific populations, building typologies, clinical applications, and harnessing the potential of advanced technologies and platforms. The Fellow will receive mentorship from industry leaders throughout their journey, gaining access to Page’s internal and external research and practice network, including health and wellness design experts, clients, and partners. They will have the opportunity to be exposed to both completed projects and those still in the design phase, deriving inspiration for their research and identifying avenues for implementing their findings. Upon completing the program, the Fellow will be well-prepared for career advancement and have the potential to emerge as a thought leader in health and wellness design research. The Hamilton Fellowship seeks to support bold and transformative research ideas. Responsibilities We are seeking graduate students—doctorate holders or Master’s students with proven research experience—focused on a career in research related to architecture, allied fields (such as design, technology, health, and social sciences), or unconventional fields that influence health and wellness design. The ideal candidate possesses an inquisitive mind and an enduring commitment to lifelong learning while aspiring to mentor others to elevate research and design in the health and wellness industry. They should exhibit proficiency in employing innovative research methods, pioneering new research pathways, actively engaging in exploratory research across multiple disciplines with tangible outcomes, and contributing to scholarly publications. They will have a strong research background in areas that bridge architecture and human well-being, contributing to the design of environments that promote health and wellness through innovative approaches in their respective disciplines. They shall be proficient in quantitative research methods and relevant statistical analysis tools, scripting, etc. Effective communication, organization, and presentation skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment are necessary. The Fellow is expected to present and/or publish their research outcomes at a conference and/or peer-reviewed publication at Page expenses. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. for the contiguous 12-month period. The Fellowship typically follows a June-to-June cycle; however, the start date is flexible. Application Timeline Full application package is due by February 12th, 2025, 5PM PST. Please plan to start application two weeks prior as this is a multistep process and all steps described below must be completed by the deadline in order to be considered. Step 1 – Please submit your complete application package to https://pagethink.egnyte.com/ul/3Y27mpOPIY. Your application package should include all the required documents outlined below. Step 2 – You are required to provide three (3) reference letters that support both your qualifications for the Hamilton Fellowship and your proposed research project. At least one letter should be from a subject matter expert in the research proposal topic. The letters should address your abilities, expertise, and readiness to carry out the proposed research, with emphasis on your potential to contribute to the field of health and wellness spaces. These letters must be sent directly from your references and submitted via email to hamilton@pagethink.com. Step 3 – Follow the “Apply Now” tab and begin your registration with the Page portal. This is a two-step process involving a follow-up email; be sure to monitor your junk/spam folder. Step 4 – Upon receipt of the follow-up email, follow the link enclosed in that email to fill out and submit the employment application. Shortlisted candidates will be asked to participate in a brief video conference interview, which will be scheduled during March 2025. Application package: Upload documents A, B, and if applicable, C. For an application to be considered complete, applicants must answer all questions and address all items below. Document A: Research Proposal (7 pages maximum, letter size 8.5x11 inches, 12 size font, single-spaced) Cover page (1 page, including abstract): Title of proposed study; personal information (name, credentials, address, email, phone number, place of employment); while the Fellowship is based in Houston, alternative offices could be considered, please provide your top 3 location preferences among Atlanta, Austin, Boston, Charleston, Dallas, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Washington D.C., San Francisco); and statement of intent (maximum 35 words), briefly noting how you see the Hamilton Fellowship positively impacting your education and/or career in health and wellness research. The abstract (150-300 words) should be a brief summary of the research objectives and methods, as well as how the topic is significant to the research and design of places that promote health and wellness. Project description (5 pages): Identify key research questions and note how these investigations respond to needs in health and wellness design. Provide a problem statement / study purpose supported by a foundation grounded in peer reviewed publications. Identify a paucity of publications, if appropriate, to build the case for your topic. Describe the methodology and processes you plan to use in your study, discussing quantitative and qualitative aspects, and explaining why this methodology is best suited to address your research questions. Provide a conceptual or theoretical framework if available. Acknowledge potential logistical challenges with your study and how you plan to address them. Provide a clear schedule outlining project task, internal project reviews, and other milestones; the timeline should demonstrate your consideration of planning to ensure the successful completion of the project within the one-year fellowship. Identify any anticipated products or measurable outcomes—such as findings, publications, design guidelines, tools, etc —noting how they will contribute to existing knowledge. Discuss how the research is academically and practically significant. Describe how your research could shape the future of the field of healthcare design and wellness spaces, noting how you will communicate and disseminate your findings to academic audiences and industry practitioners. Budget and Budget Justification (1 page): Propose a budget with line items of resources (e.g. sensors, tools, software, collaborators, etc) needed for the success of the project; the budget should also include travel costs to attend one conference to present research outcomes. Document B: Writing Sample Upload a published article in a peer-reviewed journal, manuscript, or chapter of your dissertation. Document C (if applicable): Creative Work Portfolio (10 pages maximum, no larger than 11”x17”) If desired, upload a compilation of text, images, infographics, webpages, spreadsheets, etc., that represents your creative work. Specify as individual vs. group projects, indicating your role within any group projects. Candidates are evaluated on the basis of: Research Relevance and Impact: Aligns with health, wellness, and the built environment, offering transformative ideas with tangible impact on future designs. Feasibility and Rigor: Clear, realistic research plan with sound methods, achievable within the fellowship timeframe. Research and Technical Proficiency: Strong background in methodologies, advanced tools, and interdisciplinary work, with contributions to academic publications and trade/professional journals. Creativity and Innovation: Demonstrates original thinking and independence in exploring new research directions. Collaboration and Adaptability: Proven ability to work across disciplines, adapt to challenges, and commit to lifelong learning.
