About the Role
As the Hardware Engineering Manager, you will lead a dedicated engineering team responsible for delivering key hardware components of the Enhanced Defence High Frequency Communications System, as well as supporting related defence projects.
Your leadership will foster a high-performing, collaborative team culture while ensuring all hardware engineering activities are delivered to specification, on schedule, and within budget.
You will play a critical role in the development, integration, testing, and sustainment of complex hardware subsystems, including DFSI and HF Net, contributing directly to mission success.
You will be accountable for overseeing subsystem design, integration at test facilities and operational sites, and the continuous improvement of engineering processes.
About You
You are a seasoned hardware engineering professional with experience managing the full lifecycle of complex defence or communications systems.
You possess a strong technical foundation in hardware design, integration, and support, and are comfortable making complex engineering decisions that balance technical requirements with practical delivery constraints.
Your sound judgment, system-level thinking, and commitment to quality enable you to lead technical investigations, resolve issues efficiently, and maintain control over all facets of hardware subsystem development.
You’re confident working across diverse engineering disciplines and can build strong working relationships across the organisation and with customers.
To be successful in this position you will bring:
Extensive experience in relatable technical/engineering roles. Proven ability to manage an applicable engineering function. An excellent understanding of applicable engineering toolsets (e.g. PLM or MRP systems, design, simulation and analysis software). Significant Systems Engineering experience within Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group (CASG) or the wider defence industry. Knowledge of security principles especially in High Frequency communications. Awareness of Cyber Security principles. Familiarity of ILS, RAM, Safety and E3 processes and requirements
