**Job Description** **Position Title:** Hardware Technician I, II, or III **OPEN UNTIL FILLED** **Department/Location:** Information Technology/Bismarck, ND **Company:** Basin Electric Power Cooperative **Position Purpose:** Responsible for the overall maintenance of all end point devices for the cooperative which include, but are not limited to, Desktop Computers, Laptops, Power PC’s, Desktop Printers, Multi-Function Printers, Scanners, Projectors, AV Equipment, Displays and some Tablets. Performs installations of hardware and software, hardware maintenance, and implements corrective and preventive maintenance programs on peripheral equipment, personal and portable computers, printers, scanners, and handheld devices within Basin Electric Power Cooperative (BEPC). Assists upper-level Hardware Technicians in the implementation of an overall computer hardware program. **This position is identified as a Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) related position which may allow physical and/or logical access to Bulk Electric System (BES) cyber related assets or systems.** **Essential Functions:** + Assist in the development and implementation of an overall computer hardware program. Responsible for maintenance and support of personal and portable computers, keyboards, printers, and all components to ensure effective hardware configurations within the Cooperative. + Communicate directly with customers to correct existing problems with computer hardware, as well as to design an effective desktop program that ensures continued hardware operation while accommodating customers’ processing needs. Assist other members of the Information Technology staff in solving hardware-related problems, planning installations, and participating in ad hoc or permanent projects, as assigned. + Keep current and up to date of hardware support and repair techniques for all equipment being serviced through attendance at seminars, studying hardware maintenance manuals, maintaining computer vendor contacts, and through customer contacts and on-the-job experience. Install various software packages, research/resolve any hardware or software conflicts, and set proper security permissions associated with the software. Implement vendor issued security software updates when needed. Adhere to and follow all hardware standards and procedures. + Assist with keeping accurate records to maintain inventory control of hardware devices, such as personal and portable computers, printers, handheld devices, displays, scanners, etc. **Qualifications** **:** **Hardware Technician I:** + Associates degree in Computer Information Systems, Electronics, or a related field; or + High school diploma or equivalent (GED or HSED) and 2 years of related computer information systems or electronics experience. **Hardware Technician II:** + Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Electronics, or a related field; or + Associates degree in Computer Science, Electronics, or a related field, and 2 years of related computer hardware or support experience; or + High school diploma or equivalent (GED or HSED) and 4 years of related computer information systems or electronics experience. + Repairing and maintaining personal and portable computers and handheld devices. **Hardware Technician III:** + Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Electronics, or a related field, and 4 years of related computer hardware or support experience.; or + Associates degree in Computer Science, Electronics, or a related field and 6 years of related computer hardware or support experience; or + High school diploma or equivalent (GED or HSED) and 8 years of related computer hardware experience. + Repairing and maintaining personal and portable computers and handheld devices **Other Requirements:** + Knowledge of computer hardware systems and/or computer support and data communications concepts, including networks, modems, internet connectivity and wireless networks + Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills, broad analytical skills, interpersonal and project management skills, and proficiency in Microsoft Office. + Able to repair computer hardware, read detailed technical manuals, and research driver needs from multiple computer vendors. + Dell certification required within the first 3 months of employment. + A valid driver’s license is required. + Resume required. + The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed in this job. It also requires finger dexterity and hand coordination. This position requires good hearing and vision, and the ability to speak. It also requires the ability to develop plans, procedures, and goals; present information to others; and work under stress to complete projects within deadlines. Over 50% of the incumbent's workday is spent at a desk or workbench. This position frequently works around chemicals; and occasionally around dirt/dust, extreme heat/cold, vibration, noise, poor ventilation, and electrical risks. Occasionally works in confined areas and at heights up to 10 feet. The incumbent must be able to operate a motor vehicle. The incumbent will be required to drive to remote plant sites or fly as a passenger in Cooperative/Commercial aircraft.
