PRIMARY FUNCTION: The Hatchery Manager directs the strategic operational activities for hatchery operation producing 1.3 million chicks or more on a weekly basis, including planning, developing and implementing policies and practices to attain goals and profitable operations. This role ensures work is performed in compliance with Company policies, NCC and/or Company Animal Welfare guidelines, and Federal and State regulations (i.e. USDA, OSHA, etc.) while achieving the highest level of productivity.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:
• Manage and coordinate, through supervisory personnel all hatchery activities, (e.g. egg pick-up, egg sales, deliveries, preparation and shipping of chicks, etc.) maintenance of facility and equipment, sanitation function, and Safety and Quality Assurance functions
• Manage all administrative hatchery functions including budgetary oversight, capital project planning and management of capital projects, Animal Welfare program, safety programs, etc.
• Manage and maintain weekly hatch schedules, partnering with Breeder Manager to project egg needs, to ensure proper number of birds are available for processing plant when needed
• Gather data, review and analyze, and create cohesive reports, communicating issues or variances to the appropriate personnel
• Monitor and manage facility equipment and repairs, mitigating maintenance issues through the development and maintenance of a preventative maintenance program ensuring equipment remains in optimal operating order
• Mentor, coach and train/ cross-train employees encouraging career development; provide consistent feedback concerning strengths and areas in need of improvement
• Follow and ensure others comply with all safety guidelines, establishing and managing safety policies and procedures
• Perform additional relevant duties as assigned
SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
• This role is a Leader of Leaders role with required competencies: Strategic Agility, Business Acumen, Building Effective Teams, Customer Focus and Command Skills
EDUCATION and CERTIFICATIONS:
• Bachelors’ degree in Poultry Science, Agricultural Science, Biology, or other related discipline from an accredited institution
o A combination of eight (8) years education and experience may be substituted for degree
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
• Minimum four (4) years combination of progressively responsible hatchery and poultry experience
• Minimum two (2) years supervisory experience including knowledge of timekeeping requirements, policy adherence, conflict resolution and the ability to resolve issues efficiently and effectively within a similar environment; experience directing multiple shifts preferred
• Extensive maintenance knowledge (e.g. electrical, mechanical, PLC operations, heating and cooling, hydraulics, etc.)
• Knowledge of Department of Transportation regulations/ requirements pertaining to the transport of live animals
• Excellent communication, both written and verbal, interpersonal and strong documentation skills and discipline for both technical and functional documentation
• Strong customer focus with the ability to communicate, both verbal and written, with all levels of the organization and external customer in a timely and professional manner
• Proficient computer and math skills
• Self-starter who demonstrates strong initiative and sense of urgency, with the ability to work in a fast paced environment
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects while maintaining attention to detail
• Must possess a strong customer-centric attitude and high energy level

• Ability to work non-standard shift (Holiday, Weekend or extended) to meet business requirements
