Michael Baker International is seeking a Hazard Mitigation Planner for our Community, Resilience, and Hazard Mitigation Planning Team in New York City.

We provide integrated resilience and sustainability services across all sectors, markets, disciplines, geographies and project life cycles – both as part of our company’s infrastructure, environmental and community projects, as well as stand-alone or complementary services.
The Hazard Mitigation Planner will support county and state hazard mitigation plan updates, grant application development, and other resilience projects. Specific tasks may include developing and executing outreach strategies, surveys, research, report writing, concept development, grant application development, GIS analysis, and coordination.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Research best practices and strategies to address impacts of climate change Support updates of hazard mitigation plans Work with communities to develop applications for funding. Gather data and information on climate change, natural hazards, and other relevant topics. Draft reports and other planning documents Assist planning and execution of stakeholder engagement and outreach Hybrid position; In-office requirements for production and meetings Some local travel to meetings within state/regionPROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Urban and Regional Planning or related field 0-2 years of work experience in the field Proficiency with Microsoft Office required, proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite preferred. Excellent communication skills, written and verbal, are essential to success in this role. Experience and competency in GIS preferred Interested in reducing the impacts of climate change through planning. Ability to work in a time-sensitive, fast-paced team environment.Compensation: The approximate rate for this position will be $34-$49 per hour. This will be dependent on the expertise of the incoming candidate.
