About This Role


 

Newmont is looking for a Head of Exploration Discovery, an experienced and visionary leader to drive the next frontier of mineral exploration. As the Head of Exploration Discovery, Global, you will provide frameworks, solutions, and technical expertise to enhance ore body understanding, facilitating economic exploration and enabling effective execution of the exploration strategy. 
 

This position is based in Denver, CO.

What You'll Do

 

Growth Strategy/Governance:    

Develop the 5-year technical strategy and innovation roadmap to drive a step change in understanding of ore-bodies. Champion the strategy for early-stage opportunities and develop the portfolio overview of these opportunities. Work collaboratively with peers to continually align regional and Greenfields strategies to the portfolio. Provide geochemistry, geophysics, and ore body characterization expertise to support discovery, exploration work programs, best practices and development of assets. Set the exploration technical standards and govern to improve technical effectiveness and efficiency in exploration work. Provide subject matter expertise to support global exploration technical development programs.Review exploration business development opportunities and provide recommendations for approval.Manage strategic partnerships with industry consortiums, professional associations and universities. Monitor and ensure compliance with Exploration standards and policies and Enterprise values, codes of conduct and corporate standards and policies.

 

Operational Excellence:

Lead the technical Subject Matter experts on the successful delivery of projects in accordance with the global strategy.Support target generation & work program design, based on detailed annual plans.Collaborate to support timely delivery of targeted reserves and resources.Ensure the successful delivery of Exploration technical, digitalization and process improvement projects.Support partnerships undertaking exploration projects that align with the global strategy.

 

What Your'll Do (continued)

Safety & Sustainability:     

Ensure Company safety, environment, sustainability and risk management policies are implemented in all exploration activities.Collaborate with Safety and Sustainability team to ensure social license to operate.Monitor performance in order to reduce risk exposure and take improvement activities as appropriate.


People: 

Lead multiple cross disciplinary teams and technical experts responsible for execution of global technical exploration activities.Develop individual and team capabilities consistent with the Exploration technical development framework to ensure bench strength and succession.Set team performance expectations and provide feedback.Lead the development of inclusive and cohesive teams working together to deliver productive, safe outcomes.


Commercial:        

Develop budgets, forecasts and report results to required Enterprise processes and timeframes.What We're Looking For

 

Education & Professional Qualifications:

B.Sc., M.Sc., or Ph.D. in Geoscience, Geology, or Mineral Economics.Recognized as a Qualified Person under international reporting standards.

 

Knowledge & Technical Skills:

Expert in applying knowledge of mineral systems in different geographic and commodity spectrums to scope exploration opportunities.Knowledge of greenfield and mine operations in different cultural and geographical settings. Ability to construct relationships between several systems, integrating and managing them.Advanced proficiency in project management, advancing projects ranging from new discoveries to feasibility and execution of multiple large -scale projects, including ability to shift focus and reprioritize.Advanced proficiency in exploration business development and technical due diligence.Advanced proficiency in workforce technical training and aligning development to business outcomes.Advanced proficiency in completing broad tasks that impact other parts of the business and managing time constraints, competing priorities and tradeoffs. Competent commercial skills: budgets, forecasting, planning, analysis, reporting and communicating results.Why Join Newmont

Other Requirements

 

This position is based in Denver, CO.Ability to travel to domestic and international mine or exploration sites where conditions vary.Must be legally able to work in a designated country or qualify for a work visa where required.Proficiency in English required; second language (Spanish, French, Dutch) an asset.

The salary range offered for this role is USD $190,840.00 - $328,800. The salary range is tied to the Colorado market for jobs performed in Colorado. The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and/or experience.  The salary offer will not be based on a candidate’s salary history at other jobs, and by law, Newmont will not seek information about salary history, and candidates should not share such information with Newmont.  


This role will be eligible for participation in a discretionary annual bonus program, pursuant to which an employee may be awarded a percentage of their salary based on the company’s performance and their own individual performance. This role also will be eligible for participation in a discretionary long-term incentive program, pursuant to which an employee may receive awards based on their level and individual performance.
