Job Description
*Hybrid 3x per week in Lake County, IL, Florham Park, NJ or San Francisco, CA preferred. Will consider remote candidates.
Purpose:
+ Lead global pipeline medical affairs strategy and develop compelling differentiation across the lifecycle, leveraging distinctive insights from the market to shape AbbVie TA pipeline
+ Shape initial value and evidence strategy and initiate Ev Gen plans, leveraging insights from payors, patients, and physicians.Direct pipeline execution team, ensuring pull through of strategy to Enterprise Research MSLs
+ Collaborate with counterparts in International TAs, Global Therapeutic Area BU and Development
+ Represent TA in pipeline governance, where aligned with TA BU Head
+ Interface with Operations and Medical Engagement teams to operationalize pipeline strategy
Responsibilities:
+ Lead and oversee pipeline (including BD) medical, value and evidence strategy development across all disease areas within TA to serve both US and International markets for all indications/ brands up to 24-36 months pre-launch (in any geography)
+ Drive compelling differentiation of medical, value and evidence strategy from discovery, leveraging distinctive insights from US and International markets
+ Coordinate across TAs to ensure that TA-level pipeline strategies coalesce into a coherent AbbVie pipeline strategy
+ Ensure HCP, Patients and Payor insights are incorporated into the developments programs to accelerate and differentiate clinical and commercialization strategies (e.g., streamlined patient data collection, patient finding)
+ Co-create the Brand strategy for all assets and ensure US and International market insights are embedded in the brand strategy
+ Represent medical affairs in pipeline-related governance, serving as the single point of contact for commercial and development counterparts
+ Serve as final decision maker (pre-BU head) for all pipeline-related strategy and decisions
+ Manage pipeline resources effectively, redirecting pipeline team to enterprise critical assets along the lifecycle as needed, starting as early as discovery
+ Ensure effective handover to US and International inline/ launch teams, onboarding with relevant TAs to share insights/ approach/ etc. from pipeline strategy efforts and minimizing duplication of effort across pipeline and inline teams
+ Lead cross-functional gap assessment and Integrated Evidence Planning (IEP) and collaborate with Value and Evidence
+ Define strategy for enterprise research MSLs in US and affiliates, leveraging pipeline insights to develop priorities and shape tactical plans
+ Coordinate with pipeline execution group in US Medical Engagement to drive execution
+ Collaborate with US Medical Engagement to track impact-focused KPIs and re-shape pipeline strategy based on impact or best practices
Qualifications
Qualifications:
+ M.D., or equivalent advanced degree in a relevant scientific discipline (e.g., oncology/hematology)
+ 15+ years of experience in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry, with a focus on oncology, specifically hematology
+ Demonstrated expertise in clinical development, regulatory requirements, and commercialization of oncology therapies
+ Proven leadership experience in medical affairs, including managing direct and indirect reports, cross-functional teams and influencing strategic direction at the senior executive level
+ Strong scientific knowledge of solid tumor biology, clinical trial design, biomarker development, and emerging treatment modalities (e.g., immuno-oncology, targeted therapies, precision medicine)
+ Proven ability to work cross-functionally and collaborate effectively with clinical development, regulatory, commercial, and other business functions
+ Exceptional communication skills, with experience presenting complex scientific information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Familiarity with advanced cancer treatment modalities such as CAR-T therapies, combination therapies, and immuno-oncology
+ Strong publication and scientific communication track record in oncohematology, including contributions to peer-reviewed journals and major oncology conferences
+ Experience in managing global medical affairs activities across multiple geographic regions (focus on Global strategy and US region)
Physical Requirements:
+ Ability to travel domestically and internationally (up to 25-30%).

Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range.
