Newmont North America operations are located in British Columbia, Ontario, and Quebec with roles in operations, projects, and exploration. About this role

Newmont is seeking an exceptional leader to join our team as the Head of Productivity, Africa & Canada (AFCAN Business Unit). In this high-impact role, you will champion operational excellence and technical innovation, driving best practices to unlock peak productivity across our assets and functions within the business unit. This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of our operations, influence organizational success, and leave a lasting legacy in a dynamic and globally respected organization. This role can be based in Vancouver, Denver or Accra.


 

What You'll Do Strategic Leadership: Align business unit performance with Newmont’s global strategy, ensuring the integration of technical services and operational execution. Identify productivity bottlenecks, analyze performance metrics, and prioritize improvement areas.Operational Excellence: Collaborate with site GMs to translate strategy into actionable plans, mitigate risks, and seize opportunities for improvement. Drive transformative initiatives, including mine modernization, decarbonization, and global planning frameworks.Safety & Sustainability: Champion Newmont’s safety and sustainability programs, ensuring alignment with operational goals. Lead initiatives such as Fatality Risk Management, Zero Spills Program, and workplace responsibility efforts.People Leadership: Foster an inclusive, collaborative work environment where diverse perspectives thrive.Mentor and develop talent within the business unit, ensuring sustained high performance. Be a visible leader, coaching asset leaders and replicating best practices across sites.Financial & Commercial Oversight: Manage budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting to optimize performance and resource allocation. Serve as a key member of the Investment Council, supporting capital approvals and strategic supply chain partnerships.What We're Looking For

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, preferably within the extractive or mining industry.
Experience: Demonstrated leadership experience as an Operational General Manager, minimum 3-5 years in a General Manager role. Proven ability to manage large-scale, complex projects with a focus on innovation and operational efficiency. Deep understanding of cultural diversity and its importance in driving team collaboration and success.
Skills: Developing and implementing operational solutions across the full mine-to-market value chain. Conducting impact analysis considering safety, sustainability, and production impacts.
Building business cases for improvement initiatives and quantifying stakeholder value. Data analysis, benchmarking, and decision-making. Managing continuous transformation and leading through change. Proficient in contract management.
Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of key value drivers across the mining value chain and their interdependencies. Fundamentals of finance, project management, and business improvement/Lean management. Awareness of innovative and existing technologies and their impact on operational performance.
