The Therapeutic Area Head (specialty care) for Market Access and HEOR is accountable for driving optimal market access and pricing for AbbVie’s specialty care portfolio.  This is a senior role on the Market Access Leadership team and the primary point of contact with Global and Area colleagues on issues related to market access brand strategies.  This role oversees a team of Market Access and HEOR managers supporting specialty care (Neuroscience, Virology, Psychiatry, Vision Care and Establish Brands).

Key Responsibilities:

Lead team of Market Access and HEOR Managers to develop market access, pricing, health economics & outcomes research strategies to gain, maintain, and optimize reimbursement for new and existing products with public and private payers.Oversee HTA dossier submissions for CADTH, INESSS and private payers, including the development and /or adaptation of economic modelsEnsure Canadian needs are incorporated into global strategies and deliverables including value dossiers, payer messaging, economic models and budget impact analyses through co-creation with global market access and HEOR organizations.Oversee team to plan and manage all activities to plan, develop and publish Canadian HEOR studies. These would include liaising with Global headquarters throughout the clinical development process of pipeline assets, consultants, contract research organizations and economic experts in order to tailor such studies to Canadian payers requirements and optimize reimbursement for new and existing products.Coach Market Access and HEOR Managers to lead the Value and Access Teams and be respected key contributors to brand teams.Coach Market Access and HEOR Managers to develop new approaches to problem solving, see the big picture, balance short term priorities and long-term sustainability, and use market knowledge to inform scenario planning and strategy.Monitor health care and payer policy environment for market access implication and liaise with Global and industry groups on key projects related to market access and HEOR.  Contribute to AbbVie’s positions with regard to HTA and market access policy to shape a favorable HTA environment.Lead alignment sessions with Finance and Commercial teams to provide environmental updates and access and pricing-related assumptions during financial planning cyclesServe as key point of contact in (TA) for Area and Global inquires related to price and access assumptions, scenario planning and financial planning.Contribute to the creation of strong and financially optimal business cases to balance short term wins and longer-term sustainability to ensure affiliate, area and global net pricing approvals.Work with Market Access and Government Affairs Field team to ensure stakeholder needs and perspectives are accounted for in access planningWork with Market Access in field team leads to ensure effective local execution of brand market access strategies and tactics.Provide strategic insights from an HTA and market dynamic perspective to support payer negotiations including the pan-Canadian Pharmaceutical Alliance (pCPA) and private payers for new and marketed products. Lead product optimization assessments to provide clear recommendations on regulatory strategy, price and access strategy, launch sequencing, PMPRB strategy and payer willingness-to-pay. Define organization implications and trade-offs of strategies and clearly articulates recommendation to senior leadersBuild consensus with cross functional stakeholders and ensure Canadian perspectives and needs are accounted for in therapeutic and product assessments through clinical development milestones and commercial decisions; accountable for providing robust input into Global Commercial Development’s Touchpoint processes.Manage cost center to monitor timelines and expenditure to support market access initiative and HEOR/RWE studies
Qualifications

Education/Experience Required:

Bachelor Degree in Science, Pharmacy or Pharm.D.Graduate Degree in pharmacoeconomics, epidemiology, drug development, or MBA  The ideal candidate should have a minimum of 10 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry, with 3 years experience in a similar positionMarket access and health economics expertise in the Canadian pharmaceutical industry, including previous experience overseeing multiple HTA submissions, directly dealing with CADTH, INESSS, and public/private payers.Previous experience leading high performing teams including recruiting candidates and hiring, performance management and career development.

Essential Skills & Abilities:

Deep understanding of public and private drug reimbursement landscape and health technology assessment process and submission requirements in Canada.Deep understanding of pharmacoeconomic principles / guidelines and methodological developments, as well as experience in development of economic studies in collaboration with internal (e.g. Medical department, global HEOR) and external (e.g. academic, research organizations) experts.Understanding of PMPRB regulations and implications to pricing.Elevates organizational capabilities through coaching, sharing best practices, and raising the barStrong clinical acumen; ability to quickly move between different therapeutic areasAbility to synthetize technical information and distil to clear story-tellingSees the “big picture” by bringing together different ideas, information and data pointsAbility to create and deliver executive level presentations; Inspires a culture of impactful storytelling through coachingStrategic thinking, analytical and data interpretation skills to support the development of compelling value propositions addressing public and private payer needs.Strong cross-functional leadership skills and team player. Work with field-based Market Access & Government Affairs team, Brand Teams and global Market Access & HEOR organization to develop strategies and tools to fully leverage value stories with customers.Strong prioritization and project management to balance the needs of multiple brand teams; works well under stress (timelines).High quality standards & rigor; detail-oriented.Financial acumen:  familiarity with financial decision making, P&Ls, and NPV analysesIf based in Montreal: Advanced French and English language proficiency verbally and in writing For those who do not have French language proficiency, language courses will be provided.
