Prior to training, ensure bus driver applicants meet all NYS DMV, NYS SED and School Board requirements. + Instruct and prepare new and prospective drivers on how to safely and efficiently operate a school bus in preparation to pass a NYS CDL Class B: PS endorsement road test. This includes classroom instruction and behind-the-wheel training. + Evaluates job performance of all new drivers and makes recommendations to the Transportation Supervisor concerning each potential new driver's employment status. + Assists the Transportation Supervisor in various areas of departmental operations including but not limited to the School Bus Safety Program. + When eligible, obtain NYS DMV Article 19-A Certified Examiner Certification and SBDI (School Bus Driver Instructor) Certification. Special Requirements: Must possess a valid: NYSDMV class B driver's license with a passenger, school bus and air brake endorsement. NYSDMV Article 19A examiner certification (preferred) Duties: In addition to operating a school bus, the responsibilities of the Head Bus Driver include planning, organizing and directing school bus drivers and mechanics, operating and maintaining school busses in a safe and efficient manner. The Head Bus driver is also responsible for administering programs and maintaining records in accordance with the regulations of the NYS Department of Motor Vehicles and the NYS Department of Education.
