The Head Field Hockey Coach is responsible to assist in all phases of a competitive intercollegiate Field Hockey program in compliance with NCAA, America East Conference, and institutional rules and regulations.
Accountabilities:
Coach a competitive field hockey program in a manner, which promotes sportsmanship among athletes, ensuring compliance with all NCAA conference, America East Conference, and institutional rules and regulations. Recruit outstanding student athletes to participate in the athletic program, and enthusiastically promote Bryant University academic and athletic programs to potential students, parents, guidance counselors and media. Ensure that players associated with the field hockey program are eligible under NCAA and America East Conference regulations. Assist in developing and implementing clinic(s), summer camp(s), and on-campus tryouts. Effectively review and monitor student athlete academic progress; counsel where appropriate, and refer athletes to available University resources. Interact closely with faculty to monitor progress. Ensure compliance with relevant rules and regulations. Maintain an electronic follow-up system. Establish and maintain good personal relationships with student athletes, parents, staff, guidance counselors, the Community and the media. Effectively recruit, hire, evaluate and motivate student assistants, ensuring that hiring and supervisory practices are in compliance with the spirit and intent of EEO/AA and other policies contained within the University’s employee and policy manuals. Qualifications:
This position is filled best by an individual with an undergraduate degree and related collegiate field hockey experience including successful recruiting, coaching and counseling student athletes. Knowledge and skill should also include experience in identifying at-risk students and enrolling them in appropriate services; excellent oral and written communication skills; experience motivating and supervising athletes and students, and a thorough understanding of and experience with NCAA and America East Conference rules and regulations. The ability to manage multiple tasks is essential. Knowledge of related computer applications is important. A valid driver’s license is required for travel. This position is subject to the completion of a post-offer criminal background check and division of motor vehicles check.
