Job Description:
The BP Pension Fund (the Fund) is one of the largest private sector DB pension funds in the UK with c58,000 members, assets of c£20bn and an annual payroll of c£800m. Our trustee board is supported by a full-time internal specialist team covering the full range of the Fund’s operations.
Reporting to the Fund’s Chief Operating Officer, the Head of Administration role holder has overall responsibility for the day-to-day administration operations of the Fund as well as delivery of key strategic projects.
This role will be located at our offices in Sunbury, UK. We have a hybrid working model, with an expectation of working Tuesday and Wednesday in Sunbury and other days working from home. Depending on board meeting dates and project requirements, it may also be necessary to attend the office (or our central London or Canary Wharf offices) on other days from time to time.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Run all aspects of Fund administration and delivery of strategic projects in accordance with regulatory requirements and the requirements of the trustee
Enhance efficiency and promote a member experience-led service with accurate and engaging communications, an easy-to-use online site and a knowledgeable team to assist members.
Develop good relationships with third party providers, manage performance in line with SLAs and as required undertake supplier reviews; promote efficiency where appropriate by consolidation of providers or improving service terms.
Build a strong network within the Fund, especially Risk, Legal and Actuarial, and, within bp, the UK Reward team and HR services to ensure compliant and efficient operations
Develop and maintain a network with peers at other large funds
Management of a team of c.60 employees (5 direct reports)
KEY CHALLENGES:
Leading and developing a large team
Maintaining strong, positive relationships with multiple stakeholders who may have differing priorities.
Delivery of strategic activities for the administration function while providing a stable environment for the team to provide timely and accurate delivery on projects and BAU operations.
Maintain a solid understanding of the administration service and the challenges that the teams are faced with in order to represent the administration function and engage with senior stakeholders.
ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE:
Deep knowledge and experience of UK DB pensions, including applicable legislation and regulatory requirements, and best practice in delivery of administration services
Experience of leading a large operational team, adapting to changing requirements and building team capability
Experience of selecting and managing third party providers including setting of appropriate service levels and establishing collaborative working arrangements to enhance services
Experience of utilising technology to improve efficiency and enhance service to Fund members
Strong behaviours with ability to manage a team and to facilitate good working relations with other teams.
Strong operational skills, able to challenge and develop processes and procedures for constant improvement and optimal efficiency
Effective communication to and engagement with senior stakeholders.
DESIRABLE CRITERIA:
Pensions Management Institute qualification desirable.
