The VP Advanced Analytics, Canada Segment takes on advanced analytics/ AI leadership responsibilities across multiple functions including CX, Marketing, Distribution, Underwriting, In-Force Management and Claims. The leader will direct a team of data scientists and ML engineers in identifying and qualifying AI opportunities, architecting value-creating models, and building and deploying AI solutions. The candidate is a thought leader in the global advanced analytics/AI community and experienced in executing complex analytics programs with significant impact on the bottom line of the business. The successful candidate will bring their innovation, critical thinking, influencing, industry and functional expertise leveraged through advanced analytics/AI solutions.
This position reports to the Manulife Global Chief Analytics Officer and the Canada Segment Chief Marketing Officer. The VP will lead a team of direct and/or indirect reports and consultants, and work closely with senior leadership to drive data-driven business decisions.
Key Accountabilities:
Leads the implementation of analytics solutions that drive significant value for the businessChampions the use of analytics across the organization, educating key stakeholders on value of analytics.Directs the strategic design, development and delivery of new ideas, programs and projects using advanced analytics, predictive modeling, and artificial intelligence.Identifies opportunities to leverage analytics. Advises senior management and key stakeholders including ensuring all parties understand outcomes, capabilities, risks, and limitations. Develops and recommends mitigation plans.Provide key insights and intelligence to stakeholders. Develop, prioritize and “sell” recommendations to key decision makers.Provides tactical leadership on strategic initiatives.Oversees the technical design discussions on analytics projects. Ensures technical requirements are translated and understood by key stakeholders.Develops key performance metrics to measure project success.Ensures data and advanced analytics requirements are included on all major initiatives, setting the organization up for future success.Teams closely with marketing analytics on media strategy and MROI framework.Oversees an effective analytics project process.Builds project teams and serves as senior level management contact for issues.Ensures project deliverables are completed on time and issues are resolved quicklyWorks collaboratively, bringing Risk Management (and other key stakeholders) into the process early to ensure timely approval.Coordinates closely with IT area, ensuring the Advanced Analytics team’s technology requirements are met.Sets the vision that aligns with business strategy and priorities.Creates a diverse and inclusive culture that aligns with the organizations values.Maintains knowledge on current and emerging developments and trends in the analytics space. Stays on top of relevant underwriting and risk selection trends, including emerging technology solutions and data sources. Assesses the impact, and collaborates with senior management to incorporate new trends and developments in current and future strategies.Provides subject matter expertise and key business insight to team members and applicable internal/external stakeholders on complex assignments/projects for his/her assigned area(s) of responsibility.Understands the major value drivers and operating models of insurance organizations including mortality and morbidity levers, product profitability, customer acquisition process, claims process, and distribution models.
Job Requirements:
15 years of experience of data mining, modeling, and strategy design that directly align to the responsibilities of this position.Proven track record of implementing innovations at a large organization, collaborating across a matrix organization to achieve buy-in.Knowledge of technology solutions used in the development and deployment of advanced analytics functions.Sound knowledge of “Big Data” concepts.A demonstrated track record of consistently meeting and/or exceeding performance expectations.Knowledge of key players in the analytics space including vendors and consultants as well as best practices used by competition or adjacent industries.Advanced degrees in statistics, math or business (MBA) an asset.Competencies & Key Leadership Behaviors:
