We are looking for a Head of Alternative Risk Transfer (ART), Asia Pacific, based in Singapore.
The Impact You Will Have
Reporting to the Regional Head of ART, based in UK, you will underwrite profitable new and renewal ART business to meet LoB targets locally/regionally. You will drive negotiation of participation, pricing and terms and conditions. You will own accounts / clients and develop and maintain strong relationships with brokers and clients.
You will be involved in training and development of team and act as a referral point for other underwriters and other LoB staff. You will also contribute to planning and strategy. You will actively guide portfolio level underwriting decisions, guide collaboration with other LoBs within the region and globally and actively contribute to Allianz Commercial Integration.
Key Responsibilities:
Underwrite Profitable business
Actively participate in underwriting strategy design including pricing, capacity utilization and portfolio management.
Underwrite new and renewal accounts to meet top and bottom-line LoB targets.
Negotiate participation, pricing and terms and conditions.
Proactively manage capacity.
Underwrite and evaluate Natural Catastrophe Accumulation, ensuring an understanding of catastrophe modelling and interpretation of scenarios.
Actively guide more junior underwriters and pricing staff.
Underwriting Approach and Compliance
Underwrite in line with LoB governance framework - e.g. Underwriting Authorities, global MSU, Underwriting Guidelines, Rules and Principles.
Participate in the design of those Guidelines, Rules and Principles at a regional and global level in close collaboration with the ART Regional Head.
Ensure contract certainty is achieved on all accounts at time of inception
Actively contribute to the development of pricing tools, guidelines and methods within the LoB.
Policy Documentation and Administration
Ensure accurate policy documentation issued to broker (where Allianz Commercial responsibility to do so) or broker has issued documentation (where broker responsibility).
Collaborate with ART Legal and others to develop new contract wording where necessary.
File maintenance – ensure file is established (whether electronic or paper) and maintained for each risk and transaction handled.
Proactively support completion of policy administration and credit control processes.
Support Underwriting Strategy & Leadership
Be integral to development and execution of regional Underwriting strategy for LoB.
Training, developing and coaching of less experienced staff (including junior underwriters, actuarial, operations, credit control)
Delegate work as appropriate.
Actively promote ART LoB to other internal stakeholders.
Actively collaborate with Risk Management to aid in their understanding of risks to be taken by the LoB.
Market Management
Lead the acquisition of new business and retention of existing business (including client and broker negotiations where necessary)
Proactively guide MMC on market management initiatives.
Educate Distribution on capability, products and ideas and actively deliver the same to Brokers and Clients.
Relationship Management
Positively represent Allianz Commercial and the Allianz Brand externally to the market.
Proactively drive involvement of functional areas in Underwriting process, including e.g. MMC, ARC, Claims, Operations
Develop and maintain strong relationships with key brokers and clients and other relevant stakeholders (e.g. risk managers)
What You’ll Bring to the Role
Key Experience / Requirements / Skills
Proven track record in Underwriting profitable ART business in LoB. Good understanding of ART LoB products and portfolio – Minimum 5 to 7 years
Proven track record in Pricing profitable business. Good understanding of Pricing products and portfolio management. – Minimum 5 to 7 years
Good understanding of Alternative Risk Transfer structured solutions and their application – Minimum 5 to 7 years
Must be experienced in Parametric Products, Multi Year Multi Line Products, Funded Solutions and must demonstrate an ability to create other innovative products to address new and novel market and customer needs – Minimum 5 to 7 years
Understanding of legal and regulatory framework – Minimum 5 to 7 years
Experience working in complex, global matrix organization – Minimum 5 to 7 years
Technical Skills
Risk Assessment and Management: Proven ability to assess risk and inherent exposures and natural hazards relevant to Art LOB
Structuring: Understand complex structured transactions and with actuarial assistance develop pricing and performance models and metrics.
Negotiate with brokers and customers.
Contract Drafting and Interpretation: Design, develop and implement consistent, robust wordings
Policy Management: Robust understanding of policy administration life cycle, information collection, policy issuance, premium bookings, credit control, cancellation.
General Skills
Communication & Presentation: Ability to express ideas and messages clearly, both written and verbally. Ability to "sell" an improvised or prepared audience winning story
Stakeholder and Team Management: Ability to develop and positively influence key, strategic position holders across locations and functions. Demonstrate Leadership within the team.
Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze highly complex data, from multiple sources, in detail; identify and resolve issues before they transpire.
Strategic Planning: Ability to develop innovative solutions in a fast-changing environment; ability to communicate strategies to address market trends or changes in the business environment
Required Education
Must have a degree in Economics, Law, or other appropriate discipline Preferably a master's degree in a relevant subject.
Language
Fluency in written and spoken English; proficiency in other international languages is a plus.
