What you will do

The Head of Auto Claims at Utica National holds overarching responsibility for the company's auto claims operations. This role is responsible for managing and optimizing performance of auto claim units, including Non-Litigation, Litigation, Complex, UM/UIM, No-Fault, and Garage Keepers. The leader will drive execution of strategies that align with corporate objectives and ensure efficient and effective day-to-day operations. This leader’s key duties include strategic leadership, talent management, complex claim resolution, performance analysis, and stakeholder engagement supporting the auto claims operations.

Recruit, hire, and develop a team of Commercial and Personal Lines claim adjusters to manage multi-jurisdictional losses of all levels (Non-Lit, Litigation, Complex, UM/UIM, No-Fault, and Garage Keepers). Determine the proper procedures for determining coverage, investigating, reserving, settling, or defending of auto claims that support achievement of corporate financial and service goals. Establish reserve control procedures to ensure that reserves are current and reflect accurate loss and loss expense exposure associated with claim. Responsible for analyzing and communicating changes in law, regulation, and custom to ensure consistent quality claim handling. Ensure adoption of proper and timely reinsurance reporting procedures and coordinate reinsurance claim audits.  Assist in securing all appropriate recoveries and provide sound management of key reinsurer relationships. Establish preferred loss and cost containment vendors to assist with the claims handling process, including fraud and subrogation. Consider and consult on litigation management matters. Develop and implement reviews to ensure that claims technical standards are being met and improvement opportunities are recognized and communicated. Work with Actuary and Finance partners to understand financial exhibits and impact on organization. Represent auto claims department on inter-departmental committees/project teams, and represent the claim department on intra-company committees and project teams. Provide Product and Underwriting teams with claim trends that impact underwriting decisions, and support on changes to existing products, the introduction of new products and/or entry into new state. Investigate and take appropriate action concerning complaints from insurance departments, agents, insureds, and claimants and their attorneys. Stay informed about relevant insurance regulations and industry practices.

Additional responsibilities

Ensure excellent customer service throughout the claims process, addressing customer concerns promptly with escalation to senior leadership if needed. Perform other duties as assigned. Conform with all corporate policies and procedures.

What you need

Bachelor's Degree in Insurance, Risk Management, or a related field preferred; Industry designations preferred. 10+ years of direct handling of Commercial and Personal Lines insurance claims. 10+ years in a leadership position managing auto claims units preferred.

Licensing

Required to obtain your license(s) as an adjuster in the state(s) in which you are assigned to adjust claims. Licensing must be obtained within the timeframe set forth by the Company and must be maintained as needed throughout your employment.

Salary Range: $183,600 - $225,000

The final salary to be paid and position within the internal salary range is reflective of the employee’s work experience, their geographic location, education, certification(s), scope and responsibilities in the role, and additional qualifications.
