Love Manga and Webcomics? Are you interested in defining the next generation of how and what Amazon customers are reading? The Kindle Manga team is focused on creating a delightful customer experience for Manga and Webcomic fans to discover, acquire and read content. Amazon Fliptoon is our new service dedicated to Webcomics, offering customers a compelling experience with content in vertical scroll format, optimized for reading on smartphones. We are looking for a Japan Head of Content to lead our Fliptoon Originals initiative based in Tokyo. In this role, you will be responsible for driving the growth of our Webcomic business by developing a slate of high-quality and engaging original content and working closely with content creators. The ideal candidate is both a strong creative and strategic leader with the proven ability to manage all aspects of creative production and is well-versed in solving day to day production problems as well as bigger strategic and regulatory issues relevant to the territory. The ideal candidate must be a talented creative producer who has a perspective on the future of entertainment in Japan. The candidate will have experience in content development and a deep-rooted understanding of the content landscape and trends in Japan. They will listen to our customers and use qualitative and quantitative data to help drive the right greenlight decisions. They will possess an ability to build relationships internally at Amazon with key stakeholders (including Business Development, Marketing, Operations, Legal, Finance and partners from other categories such as Prime Video) and externally with content creators. They will also require a persuasive, clear and professional verbal and written communication style, an ability to own strategic documents and oversee the most complex of business and creative negotiations internally and externally. They must be a big thinker, with the confidence to both advocate ideas and collaborate in a highly pressured environment, with the ability to problem solve on a daily basis without supervision and manage the ambiguity that is the nature of creative production.
Key job responsibilities
- Define and execute our Original Content strategy in Japan.
- Seek out new content development opportunities by assessing business opportunity and appeal for our target audience.
- Drive greenlight decisions by assessing content proposals, pitches and sample cuts.
- Oversee all creative aspects of development and production.
- Serve as primary creative liaison internally at Amazon and externally with content creators.
Basic Qualifications
- 8+ years of account management, business development, content licensing or finance experience
- 8+ years of developing, negotiating and executing business agreements experience
- Bachelor's degree
- Knowledge of digital video landscape, including solid understanding of digital video distribution technologies
- Experience in media licensing models, evaluation metrics and deal terms
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience converting insights into strategy and communicating complex ideas clearly and logically in written communication
- Experience managing a large number of account relationships and deals simultaneously, ideally related to media/entertainment
