Your Role:

The Head of Downstream Operations is responsible for managing and coordinating department personnel, inventory, and capital resources to support the packaging, filling, and labeling of products. This role oversees a team of 80 employees, including 6 supervisors. Key responsibilities include managing two shifts, coordinating activities to meet customer demands and company objectives, and developing team members' skills to improve performance. 

 

Key Responsibilities: 

Provide a strong avenue of communication for employees, maintaining a foundation of respect and dignity, and emphasizing company values. Include in the communications information to effectively operate the department and to support the company objectives

Oversee the development and improvement of the department's abilities, technology, methods, and equipment

Ensure that operations are carried out in compliance with all government regulations and company policies or procedures

Plan for short-term and long-term responses to customer needs and company goals

Foster a culture of safety compliance by implementing and promoting best practices in workplace safety, ensuring that all employees are adequately trained and equipped to adhere to safety protocols

Encourage a continuous improvement mentality within the department, promoting innovation, efficiency, and quality improvement through the implementation of process improvement methodologies and fostering a culture of ongoing learning and development

Serve as a departmental liaison with internal and external customers

 

Who You Are

Minimum qualifications: 

Bachelor’s degree in Science, Engineering, or a related field with 3+ years of supervisory experience, or a minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience combined with 5+ years of relevant industry experience without a degree

Day shift typically with the flexibility to work outside these hours to collaborate effectively with the 2nd shift

  

Preferred Qualifications: 

Proficient in safe processing techniques and pertinent OSHA, EPA, FDA regulations

Familiar with packaging, filling and labeling concepts and standards such as ISO 9001, ISO 13485, 21 CFR 820 GMP, and other applicable regulations

Knowledge of various relevant packaging techniques and equipment

Ability to manage, motivate and develop employees

Interpersonal skills, conflict resolution, motivation, leadership

Communications skills including writing and oral, ability to communicate with various disciplines. and levels both one-on-one and group communication

Management skills such as coaching and teaching

Organizational skills including delegation, decision making, and team building

Knowledge of Process Improvement methodology

Ability to effectively manage a large, 3 shift work force consisting of supervisory and hourly employees

Excellent problem-solving ability, leadership ability

 

Physical Attributes 

May sit, stand, walk, reach above the shoulder, stoop, kneel, twist, crouch, or crawl for short periods of time

May occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds unassisted and more than 50 pounds assisted

Wear Personal Protective Equipment, “PPE,” including but not limited to hard hats, glasses/goggles, chemical-resistant suits, gloves, safety shoes

Involves the use of close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth vision, and adjusting focus

Work area may occasionally be wet, humid, abnormally hot, or cold

Occasionally works near moving mechanical parts
