Site Name: Japan - Tokyo - Akasaka Posted Date: Aug 20 2024 About the role The Head of ER is a senior management position that oversees the employee relations function of the organization. The Head of ER is responsible for developing and implementing policies and practices that foster a positive and productive work environment, as well as ensuring compliance with labor laws and regulations. The Head of ER leads the union negotiation process, which involves bargaining with the representatives of the unionized workforce on various aspects of their employment contract, such as wages, benefits, working conditions, and grievance procedures. The Head of ER plays as secretariat to organize and facilitate the disciplinary committee. Key responsibilities Develop and execute the employee relations strategy and plan, aligned with the organization's vision, mission, values, and goals. Manage and supervise the ER team, including hiring, training, coaching, and performance evaluation. Provide guidance and support to managers and employees on various ER issues, such as conflict resolution, disciplinary actions, performance improvement, and employee engagement. Conduct investigations and audits on ER matters, such as complaints, allegations, disputes, and violations, and ensure appropriate actions and follow-ups. Organize and facilitate the disciplinary committee as secretariat Establish and maintain effective communication and collaboration with the union representatives, and foster a constructive and respectful relationship. Lead the union negotiation process, including preparing proposals, conducting meetings, reviewing contracts, and resolving disputes. Monitor and analyze the ER trends and metrics, and provide reports and recommendations to senior management and stakeholders. Stay updated on the latest ER best practices, laws, and regulations, and ensure compliance and alignment with the organization's policies and procedures. Build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, such as senior management, legal counsel, unions, and regulators. Key qualifications Bachelor's degree in human resources, labor relations, or related field. Minimum of 10 years of experience in ER, with at least 5 years in a leadership role. Extensive knowledge and experience in union negotiation and labor relations. Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. High level of integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality. Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks and deadlines.
