Head of Fund Accounting

We are seeking a Head of Fund Accounting to join our dynamic Fund Services team in Melbourne. In this role you will lead the Fund Accounting team in maintaining financial records for superannuation funds and IDPS accounts administered by FNZ. You will be fundamental in the delivery of appropriate accounting outcomes, strong financial controls and service excellence. Key responsibilities include setting strategic direction, driving system enhancements, strengthening risk controls, and overseeing governance frameworks. You’ll also manage auditors and client interactions, ensuring consistency and continuous improvement across client groups while aligning with industry best practices.

 

The Fund Accounting team prepares and reviews management accounts, regulatory returns, and collaborates with internal and external stakeholders, including clients, tax agents, and auditors. They also monitor regulatory and financial changes, ensuring successful project implementation and compliance with industry standards.

 

The responsibilities will include:  

Provide leadership and coaching to the Fund Accounting Team to build a high performing unit and deliver success through team engagement.

Accountable for financial outputs, ensuring efficient and accurate delivery of month end close, compliance and statutory obligations are being met.

Oversight of all Fund accounting procedures, records and reconciliations to ensuring integrity as related to Fund level financial reporting.

Supervision of the fund’s financial statements preparation process.

Influence the strategic direction and takes responsibility for the full range of fund accounting functions, including documenting processes, developing standard templates, service standards and operational agreements.

Presentations to FNZ funds/trustees to provide oversight and reporting on financial activities relating to the Super Funds and IDPS and ensure appropriate approval of regulatory documents.

Ensure successful delivery of annual and half year financial statements and regulatory returns of FNZ’s Registered Superannuation and Non-Superannuation Entities.

Develop and promotes organisational strategies, policies, standards, and guidelines for organisational growth.

Facilitates open communication and discussion between stakeholders by developing, maintaining and working to stakeholder engagement strategies and plans.

Support the Head of Fund Services on a range of strategic and operational projects.

Develops organisational capabilities to drive innovation. Leads and plans the development of innovation capabilities and implementation of innovation processes, tools and frameworks.

Monitoring and adherence of Australian Accounting standards and legislation in relation to all operations and responsibilities of the Fund Account Team.

Considers tax legislative changes and ATO rulings relevant to Super Funds and Wealth management.

 

 

What are we ideally looking for in a successful candidate? 

CA or CPA-qualified candidate

Minimum 10 years of proven experience of leading a Fund Accounting team

Ideally possess broad Super & IDPS product knowledge in a Wrap and Workplace Super context.

Proven Experience in leading a team accountable for preparing APRA Quarterly and Annual Reporting Forms

Proven Experience in preparing Statutory Financial Reports

Detailed knowledge of tax in superannuation and investment products

Proven ability to drive change
