Global Legal plays an important role in protecting the Group’s reputation by helping to future-proof the organisation through robust legal risk and issue advisory. Responsible for providing comprehensive legal advice to senior management and all global businesses and functions, the team offers a diverse range of legal skills, jurisdictional experience and practice specialisms across all countries and territories in which our businesses operate.

We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as a Head of Global Trade Solutions Legal, Singapore.

Principal Responsibilities

The successful candidate will report to the Managing Associate General Counsel –Head of SSEA GTS Legal and will be based in Singapore. The primary focus of the role is to provide high-quality legal support, advice and guidance to the Global Trade Solutions (“GTS”) business operating in Singapore.

The Singapore GTS business offers the following trade products (without limitation) across all customer segments (business banking to large corporates and multinationals) (collectively, “GTS Products”):

Receivables FinanceSupply Chain FinanceCore Trade Finance (e.g. Bank Guarantee, LC and SBLC facilities)Structured Trade Finance, including:Commodity structured trade financeAsset-based lendingESG-related trade financeRisk Distribution and Participation

This role is required to support the Singapore GTS bankers on a range of transactional legal matters, GTS related projects and initiatives - as well as overall oversight of GTS activities from a legal risk management perspective on a day-to-day basis.

Responsibilities include:

As the HSBC GTS Legal team lead: Providing expert legal advice, guidance and support to ensure that legal and reputational risks of the Singapore GTS business are proactively identified and mitigatedSupport and promote the strategic growth of the Singapore GTS businessCoordinating and managing relationships between internal and external stakeholders, businesses and support functionsAssisting with the preparation, negotiation and review of various legal documents including financing terms, confidentiality agreements (including consideration of conflicts of interest issues), engagement letters, mandates, pitch materials, term sheets, finance documents, legal opinions and other transactional documents and agreementsProviding advice that is pragmatic and commercially sound (in addition to being legally sound) that is aligned with HSBC’s strategy and within HSBC’s risk parametersCollaborating with lawyers globally and regionally to promote consistency in approachProviding legal input on local, regional and / or global legal projectsPromoting the adoption of best practice and documentation standards, including representing HSBC at industry associations (as required)
