About the role:
The Legal Group of American International Group, Inc. (NYSE: AIG) is seeking a Head of International Insurance Legal to join its legal department in London. This position will report to the Global Head of Insurance Legal for AIG and be part of the extended leadership of AIG’s Global Legal, Compliance & Regulatory organization (GLCR).
The Head of International Insurance Legal’s primary role will be to partner with the Executive Vice President and Chief Executive Officer of International Insurance and lead the International Insurance Legal team of lawyers and legal professionals within GLCR. AIG’s International Insurance legal team comprises approximately 85 personnel in nearly 35 countries, and is responsible for providing legal support for: (i) insurance legal matters in all countries other than the United States, Canada and Bermuda (collectively, “North America”) for our standard lines of business; (ii) AIG’s Multinational business; and (iii) global lines of business (e.g., our Specialty lines) under the remit of the CEO of International Insurance.
Specific Responsibilities Include:
Provide comprehensive legal support to the International Insurance and Global Specialty businesses of AIG and to assist them in executing on compliant strategies to achieve their business objectives Coordinate with the Centers of Expertise (COE) heads in GLCR with respect to regulatory, governance, employment, litigation, reinsurance, product underwriting, compliance, data/digital, and all other areas covered by a COE as issues in those areas arise internationallyAct as the main point of contact for the CEO of International Insurance and his executive leadership team on all legal matters involving the International and Specialty Insurance businesses pursuant to the target operating model and division of duties across GLCRAnticipate and advise on a wide variety of legal risks associated with AIG International Insurance’s operationsOversee the International Insurance legal team in delivering legal support and service to their business clients with excellenceRetain and manage outside counsel as needed to support the International Insurance legal team in close collaboration with the Service Delivery teamCoach, mentor, and develop the colleagues on the International Insurance legal teamQualifications:
Substantial and expansive legal experience with a major international law firm or relevant in-house insurance industry experience, with a demonstrated focus on global or international insurance and reinsurance legal and regulatory issuesSignificant hands-on experience managing and supporting global business clients on insurance and reinsurance legal and regulatory mattersTop academic credentials and excellent written and oral communications skillsStrong organizational and project management skillsDemonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a strong focus on collaborationProven leadership abilitiesExperience managing diverse high functioning teamsAdmitted and practicing member of the bar or equivalent legal qualifications, credentials, and licensureLeadership Skills:
