Head of Legal - UK Commercial Risk
Head of Legal – UK Commercial Risk The candidate will lead the team responsible for supporting the Commercial Risk Insurance broking business, Global Broking Centre wholesale business, across the UK, including UK branches of Belgium and Netherlands. The candidate will be required to lead, advise, as well as work closely within a team with business leaders and other legal subject matter and jurisdictional experts, helping to anticipate, identify and risk manage business and legal and compliance challenges, and help the business accomplish its strategic and financial goals which are key to Aon. They will lead a team that interacts with clients, markets, regulatory bodies, industry bodies, distribution partners, and external counsel. The role requires strong experience in broking in the London market, they will also need to have extensive experience in cross-border business. They will need to lead across geographies and between solution lines working with the UK Aon law team which consists of lawyers, paralegals, and administrators in London, Manchester and Poland. What the day will look like + The provision of quality commercial legal support and risk management guidance to our UK Commercial Risk business, ensuring compliance with all applicable corporate policies laws and regulations. Also supporting other businesses in the UK as required using domain expertise. + Build integral relationships with the leaders of the UK Commercial Risk and GBC businesses and being a true business partner supporting their growth strategies. + Advise on regional corporate governance matters including board and committee structure, supervision, monitoring and decision-making authority as applicable working closely with Compliance. + Lead and support more junior members within the team ensuring they are guided and feel supported, whilst promoting engagement and career development within an infrastructure that aligns with the Law and Compliance Department’s target operating model, which aims to achieve balance and harmony between regional operations and global business line strategies. + Proactively Identify legal risks and issues within the business line and work with the business team to assess and effectively manage the same. + Where appropriate liaise and handle outside counsel on various matters to ensure compliance with local laws and regulations in a cost-effective way. + Work with law department and business leadership to assist or lead projects related to process improvements, risk mitigation and legal policy development. + Collaborate at every opportunity with Aon colleagues across the firm to drive key business and functional initiatives and model Aon’s core values. + Other duties + People leader responsible for ensuring the UK Commercial Risk legal team is well structured, efficient, and responsive to the business’ needs. Support career planning and personal development + Report to Law leadership ensuring timely updates of key matters and collaboration. + The role is within the UK legal team which supports all Aon business lines including, reinsurance, retirement, investment and analytics.
