Summary

The Head of Performance Measures plays a vital role in the Business Insights team, crafting important metrics to assess business performance.

The Business Insights team is now part of the Clinical Development Strategy and Innovation team. In addition to focusing on Performance Measures, the Business Insights team’s remit includes developing/managing the process of innovation, innovation strategy contribution from a commercial perspective, proof of concept digital development, and business ownership for Group-level digital products.

As a member of the Business Insights SLT, the Performance Measure leader is expected to contribute to the opportunity funnel for innovative ideas and help identify solutions that will address the most significant business drivers.

Key Job Functions

Leadership and Transformation: Continue the transformation of the Performance Measures team, ensuring alignment with Group-level objectives and maintaining strategic momentum.Data-Driven Insights: Analyze data to provide insights that influence strategic plans and operational actions, suggest practical process improvements (PPI), and generate innovative ideas. Provide compelling performance data to support commercial endeavours and win new business.Lead the team in defining achievable and competitive important metrics to measure performance and promote continuous improvement across Divisions.Technical and Operational Expertise: Ensure the team can interrogate data using AI and advanced techniques, creating standards for analytics across Divisions.Metric Development and Optimization: Oversee the definition, optimization, and generation of metrics, reports, and scorecards to assess operational performance, including delivery, productivity, financial, and quality performance.Collaborator Collaboration: Work with various collaborators to design, develop, maintain, and improve metrics and associated analytical reports.Project and Initiative Leadership: Serve as the business lead for priority projects and initiatives, delivering insightful analyses and recommendations to senior leadership.Data Consultation and Oversight: Provide consultation and oversight of data gathering and defining operational user requirements and functional specifications.Administrative and Strategic Oversight: Manage staffing, budgeting, scheduling, long-term planning, and provide strategic direction through line management. Ensure effective recruitment, induction, talent development, and retention of staff, along with ongoing coaching, feedback, and formal performance appraisals.

Previous Experience

Education and Experience: 10 to 15+ years of relevant experience, with 5 to 10+ years in management roles. Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience will be considered.Leadership and Management Skills: Demonstrated ability to lead and manage teams, with a solid understanding of operational, productivity, and financial performance drivers.Analytical and Technical Skills: Strong analytical skills, proficiency in computer skills, and an understanding of relational databases and database structures.Strong communication skills in speaking, writing, and presenting. Can convey data effectively to senior leadership and clients.Process Improvement: Knowledge of analytical and process improvement methodologies, especially in clinical trials, clinical development, and project management.Attention to Detail: Acute attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously, balancing long-term projects with immediate demands.

Critical Thinking: Ability to apply critical thought and analysis to define and develop meaningful metrics and visualizations.Data Analytics: Proficiency in data interrogation using AI and other advanced techniques.Operational Excellence: Expertise in optimizing operational performance through data-driven insights.Collaboration: Strong collaboration skills to work effectively with various collaborators.Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in computer skills and understanding of relational databases and database structures.Communication: Excellent oral, written, and presentation skills to communicate complex data insights clearly and effectively.Leadership: Ability to provide strategic direction, mentor staff, and manage team performance.Process Improvement: Knowledge of process improvement methodologies and ability to implement practical improvements.

Management Role

Staff Management: Responsible for effective recruitment, induction, talent development, and retention of staff.Performance Management: Provide ongoing coaching, feedback, formal performance appraisals, development plans, and career coaching.Strategic Oversight: Manage staffing, budgeting, scheduling, and long-term planning for the department.Project Leadership: Lead departmental projects and initiatives, providing insightful analyses and recommendations to senior leadership.Operational Management: Oversee the definition, optimization, and generation of metrics, reports, and scorecards to assess operational performance.

Salary Transparency

This is a salaried role that will also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy. Compensation will be initially discussed during the screening period, with actual compensation confirmed in writing at the time of offer.
