Head of Protection Reinsurance

Salary National Circa £100,000 and £130,000 London Circa £120,000 and £140,000

This is a great job for someone looking to make a significant contribution the overall success of the Protection business. This role would be best suited for someone with experience of reinsurance and/ or the Protection industry, who is both commercial and technically capable, with strong stakeholder management, communication and leadership skills.

A bit about the job:

Set and execute the reinsurance strategy for the Protection business, covering both Individual and Group Protection in support of overall business strategy and goals

Own overall reinsurer relationship management strategy, focused both on deepening relationships with reinsurers whilst effectively managing risk, maximising commercial benefit and considering customer outcomes

Optimise new business terms whilst identifying opportunities to deliver value through back book reinsurance optimisation / simplification

Overall responsibility for accuracy and timeliness of reinsurance administration (over £1bn p.a. payable to reinsurers) ensuring appropriate senior level focus on operational accuracy controls and quality

Leadership of a team of 27 with a direct report team of 5, comprising both Aviva employees (18) and outsourcers (9). More broadly brings together all internal functions to ensure Aviva Protection has a clear and aligned external voice

Skills and experience we’re looking for:

Strong knowledge of, and relationships with, the UK Protection reinsurance market

Strong commercial acumen with excellent relationship management skills

Ability to work both strategically as well as tactically

Sound understanding of Protection, and the impact of areas such as Underwriting, Claims, Operations and Risk Management on reinsurance, as well as the controls to manage and mitigate risks

Strong people leadership credentials, with ability to create a positive culture that supports people’s development

Starting salary Circa £100,000-£140,000 (depending on location, skills, experience, and qualifications)
