Head Start Teacher
Job Description Lead Teacher provides a successful, safe, and supervised educational setting for children enrolled in Family Services Child Development Head Start/Early Head Start program. The Lead Teacher actively promotes school readiness goals and set appropriate goals that address the five essential domains (social-emotional, cognitive development & general knowledge, language/literacy, physical development & health and approaches to learning). Develop individual goals, provide ongoing assessment on the developmental progress, and facilitate transitions into kindergarten. Encourage parent family community engagement involvement in all aspect of the program. Position Responsibilities: 1. Provide supervision and support to teacher related to classroom responsibilities. 2. Develops and implements a developmentally appropriate, multi-cultural curriculum for children. 3. Works cooperatively with support staff in the provision of direct services and the development of goals for children with disabilities. 4. Performs duties in accordance with CLASS and School Readiness goals and requirements. 5. Participates daily in team planning of curriculum with teacher assistant, using and encouraging appropriate input from parents; 6. Implements federal, state, and local health and safety policies and procedures; NC Day Care regulations. 7. Ensure the learning environment supports the development of all children's social/emotional, cognitive, language/literacy and physical development (making use of translators when necessary). 8. Responsible for planning and implementing plans for individual children, small, and large groups, with input from Teacher. 9. Supervises children at all times by providing and maintaining a safe, healthy learning environment. 10. Develop and utilize integrated curriculum plans and designated assessment system (Teaching Strategies Gold), which reflect mandated elements and components, parental and cultural influences, and promote the social, emotional, physical and cognitive development of the children enrolled. 11. Follow a consistent schedule, which includes small/large group experiences, choice time, music/movement, large/small motor activities, skill development, meals and effective transitions between activities. 12. Encourage experimentation, exploration, problem-solving, cooperation, socialization, and ask open-ended questions, provide quality feedback and listen respectfully. 13. Directs classroom activities and maintaining discipline in an appropriate manner. 14. Encourages all children to participate fully in all activities at all levels of interest and ability. 15. Supports the development of relationships between children and their families. 16. Works cooperatively with support staff in the provision of direct services and the development of goals for children with disabilities. 17. Prepare classroom materials to support developmentally appropriate curriculum plans; create and change learning centers as needed. 18. Support the development of relationships between children and their families. 19. Maintains confidential records as required by federal, state, and local mandates. 20. Collaborates with the Teacher ll in a manner that will promote a team teaching approach. Skills and Requirements Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or Birth -- Kindergarten Education. North Carolina Birth to Kindergarten Licensure preferred. Dedicated to child development and early childhood education; oriented to the concept of the total family. Minimum of 1 years' experience in direct services to young children. Valid driver's license and ability to travel between various agency sites, community resources, and home visits Meet federal and state background check and drug screen requirements Ability to work with a diverse population.
