Pharma Global Technical Operations (PT) is the organization that manufactures and delivers Roche’s groundbreaking therapies to 127 million patients around the world. PT is involved in producing every Roche medicine – from the development process through clinical trials – and continuing to product maturity. Our organization coordinates all aspects of production of Roche medicines in all disease areas and dosage forms.
Pharma Technical Development (PTD) is integral to Roche’s mission to develop innovative and transformative meaningful medicines for patients by applying leading technical expertise to design, develop, supply, and register clinical stage products globally.
Within PTD, Synthetic Molecules Technical Development (PTDC) leverages advanced science and technology to drive the development of synthetic molecules from first-in-human studies through commercialization. Based in Basel, Switzerland, our team of approximately 700 experts works collaboratively to bring our vision to life, delivering impactful solutions that support our mission and uphold our core values.
In the position as Head of Technology and Data, you will be accountable for consistently and effectively:
Develop & Execute Technology & Data Strategy – Lead the vision, strategy, and roadmap for technology and data integration across PTDC, ensuring alignment with business objectives and long-term goals.
Drive Digital & Operational Excellence – Implement and embed digital solutions, automation, and process innovations to enhance efficiency, compliance, and product quality across development and manufacturing.
Lead Innovation & Technology Adoption – Identify, evaluate, and integrate new technologies, tools, and methodologies to transform CMC, commercial, and business processes.
Seamless Integration from Lab to Plant – Ensure the smooth transition of new technologies and processes from early development to clinical and commercial manufacturing, optimizing scale-up and transfer.
Strategic Project Leadership & Execution – Act as key User-Representative for major investment projects (e.g., SMF), ensuring alignment with PTDC’s aspirations for speed, reliability, and efficiency.
Enhance Data-Driven Decision Making – Strengthen data accessibility, analytics, and visualization, driving seamless data flow from Lab to Plant to support predictive and adaptive operations.
Foster Collaboration & External Partnerships – Build strategic alliances with internal stakeholders, external technology developers, industry leaders, and academic institutions to accelerate innovation and execution.
Leadership & Talent Development – Build, coach, and inspire high-performing, cross-functional teams, fostering a culture of accountability, continuous learning, and innovation.
Who You Are:Significant bio/pharmaceutical professional field experience, including cross-functional team management and extensive end-to-end expertise in pharmaceutical development and clinical & commercial manufacturing
Demonstrate strong leadership skills and a track record of successfully scaling cross functionally digital solutions, including organizational change management and new digital way of working
Strong creative leadership skills according to the VACC model (Visionary, Architect, Coach, Catalyst), ability to build forward-looking perspectives and remove obstacles, develop people and technical skills
Solid experience in deploying & leading innovative initiatives across the organizations and in generating tangible impact
Proven track record of ensuring effective knowledge management
Strong proficiency in providing technical user inputs to major investments, and in implementing new technologies.
