To learn more about Mission Technologies, click here for a short video: https://vimeo.com/732533072 Job Description Mission Technologies, a division of Huntington Ingalls Industries, is searching for a qualified candidate to fill the roll of Environmental Compliance Specialist located at The Southern California Tactical Training Range (SCTTR), a component of the Navy Integrated Training Environment (NITE). This is a combined position. SCTTR is a military live fire training range with three primary Southern California locations in the San Diego area. The position requires the flexibility to work occasional non-standard hours and workweeks. #LI-MA2 Essential Job Responsibilities Identifies hazardous workplace conditions and takes preliminary samples and measurements of hazardous forces and toxic substances, removes hazards and/or protects employees by guarding, revising work procedures, and training or requiring use of protective clothing and personal protective equipment. Takes effective steps to ensure that workplace conditions comply with applicable federal and state occupational safety and health standard provisions of any labor agreement, ensuring that all required records are prepared and maintained. Participates in Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) inspections and in any procedures that may follow a citation. Investigates, prepares, and forwards as required reports on injuries and fatalities. Conducts safe work procedures training courses. Environmental Compliance Specialist Functions Conducts required environmental tests, analysis and observations. Evaluates results and makes recommendations as necessary for maintaining compliance with regulatory agencies. Requires a bachelor's degree in a related area and 2-4 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. Works under general supervision; typically reports to a supervisor or manager. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required. Safety Manager Functions Plans and manages the general health, safety, and loss control policies and procedures of the organization. Monitors and evaluates the workplace to ensure compliance with governmental regulatory agencies. Designs and directs safety-training programs to reduce accidents, occupational illnesses, and exposure to long-term health hazards. Develops worker plans and policies for new employee safety orientation including skill training, emergency preparedness, proper job instruction, hazardous material disposal procedures, and the use of protective equipment. Studies, identifies, and reports causes of past accidents and develops recommendations and follow-up to prevent accident recurrences. Typically requires a bachelor's degree of occupational safety and health or related degree or suitable work experience. Reports to the Contract Site Manager (CSM). Manages available staff in the day-to-day performance of their safety activities. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met while adhering to approved budgets. Extensive knowledge of department processes. The candidate will work in close communication with the site management team, other team members, range users, and government clients to ensure environmental compliance and a safe workplace environment in accordance with all instructions, manuals, memorandums, and directives. Minimum Qualifications + 5 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field OR + 3 years relevant experience with Masters in related field OR + 0 years experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in related field Or + High School Diploma or equivalent and 9 years relevant experience. + Experience with OSHA, NAVOSH and HAZMAT standards. + Ensure that hazardous materials and waste at the work sites are handled in accordance with all federal, state, local and Naval Environmental Regulations. + Ability to manage safety and environmental programs for a division of approximately 200 personnel with limited direction from senior managers. + Possess an active Secret Clearance. + Perform other duties as specified by program management. Preferred Requirements . + 30-hour OSHA General Industry Safety and Health + Basic knowledge of military live fire training ranges, e.g. weapons and lasers. + Ability to write reports and provide face-to-face briefs and training sessions. Physical Requirements + May require working in an industrial or shipboard environment. + Normally not required to lift more than 40 pounds higher than three feet above feet/floor level. + May encounter extremes of temperature, pollution, humidity, noise, and other environmental factors while collecting data, observing performance of task teams. + Ability to lift 50 pounds HII is more than a job - it’s an opportunity to build a new future.
