Job Title:

Health and Safety Intern

Job Description:

Support and drive strategic leadership to all health and safety (H&S) matters in the organization. Responsibilities include ensuring that all the H&S policies and programs are implemented effectively and that operations are in compliance with government regulations; supporting the efforts of the H&S team; modifying and implementing compliance tracking programs; record keeping systems; participating in change management processes and strategic management issues as they may arise; participating in the direction of health and safety programs, supporting ISO 45001 initiatives, risk evaluations and reductions.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and implement initiatives designed to identify, evaluate, prevent, and control environmental, health, and safety risks and hazards. Provide analysis of significant risks to leadership through H&S assessments, compiling results and interpreting data to identify gaps. Develop and implement action plans to mitigate risks.Act as technical H&S contact with internal and external stakeholders, regulators and media.Develop strategies and programs related to workplace industrial hygiene and medical surveillance requirements.Implement, maintain and monitor H&S management systems and compliance audits.Prepare and present program reviews and provides management with regular progress reports.

Key Performance Measures

Injury free work sites.  Achieve annual strategic plan TRIR and Severity Rate KPIs. Issuance of Preliminary Incident Reports according to Allison policyDevelopment of both leading and lagging EHS metrics; Flash Reports, and; quarterly H&S performance updates.Minimize non-conformances via internal H&S audit findings; corrective action, and; resolution of identified gaps.  Resolution of all environmental Phase I due diligence findings.

Qualifications

Minimum 3.0 overall GPA requiredMinimum of a Junior undergraduate or graduate studentTime management skillsProactive self-starter with the ability to self-manageAgility to adapt to rapidly changing demands and multiple stakeholder requestsDetail-orientedProblem solving and critical thinking skillsHave excellent verbal and written communication skills
