Health Information Clerk (temporary) Canton, NY (http://maps.google.com/maps?q=Canton+NY+USA+13617) Job Type Full-time Description Reports to:Health Information Coordinator Rate of Pay: $16.10 per hour; this position is not benefit-eligible Work schedule:Monday - Friday, weekdays; This is a temporary position with anticipated need from May - July 2025 Position Summary:The Health Information Clerk shall ensure the privacy and accuracy of patients' medical data and comply with HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) laws. The Health Information Clerk is entrusted with securing and updating health information/medical records and receiving, assessing, and processing requests for Release of Information (ROI). Primary Responsibilities: + Process Release of Information requests in accordance with agency policy and state and federal regulations. + Create, compile, and organize health information/medical records, including but not limited to scanning, pre-load, and other data entry duties. + Evaluate patient medical records and charts for correctness and completeness. + Prepare correspondence, including patient and provider letters. + Review claim remedies in EMR systems and coordinate resolutions with the Billing Department. + If needed, fill in as a receptionist, receive new patients, direct visitors with a positive professional demeanor, and answer telephone and triage telephone/fax communication. + Conduct designated reviews to measure compliance with agency policy and procedure, State and Federal Regulations, and directives by other regulatory agencies. + Utilize approved forms and review tools to conduct reviews. + Participate in continuing education and training as designated by the Director of QA and Compliance to maintain and improve the knowledge base of policy, regulations, and directives. + Participate in agency activities, meetings, and training as designated by the Director of QA and Compliance. + Member of agency-wide committees designated by the Director of QA and Compliance to represent the QA/C Department, stay abreast of program policies and assure compliance with standards. + Transcribes documents based on physician recordings. + Perform other duties as requested by the Supervisor. Requirements + High school diploma or GED required. + One year of medical office experience is preferred. Knowledge of EMR preferred. + Ability to interact and communicate with individuals at all levels of the organization. + Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills are required. + Ability to manage multiple tasks and complete duties in a timely manner. + Must be proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel. + Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs. + Excellent hand-eye coordination + Ability to sit for long periods + Ability to tolerate extensive exposure to computer monitor/screen + Ability to tolerate extensive use of computer keyboard.
