Health Information Specialist
Job Descriptions: At CHA, we are champions for children’s health. The Health Information Specialist will report to the Manager of Data Submission & Data Quality and work a hybrid schedule from our Lenexa, KS office. This individual will play a vital role in facilitating timely and accurate hospital data submissions to our comparative database. In collaboration with member hospitals, the Health Information Specialist will advance the comparability of clinical data by establishing data quality standards, working with cross-functional teams to proactively identify and create solutions for improvement, and supporting the use of health care terminologies such as ICD-10 and CPT codes. What You’ll Do + Facilitate the data submission process for hospitals by leveraging available technologies to manage both hospital data content and our classification systems. + Proactively engage with member hospitals to coordinate all aspects of the data submission process by providing hospital-specific project management plans with milestones to ensure timely and complete data submissions. + Work with data management vendors and hospitals to identify data quality checks to implement as part of the data acquisition process. + Develop and refine documentation for data content, processes, and terminology mappings that benefit both new and existing hospitals. + Coordinate data submission implementation for new hospitals for selected data products. + Proactively identify standardization opportunities and implement solutions to ensure quality and comparability for selected content areas. + Identify root causes of data quality issues; develop recommendations for addressing them and present recommendations to the appropriate group. + Increase awareness, knowledge and understanding of coding and classification systems, reimbursement methodologies, health care terminologies and mapping with internal and external users. + Assist internal and external data users with coding, health data and research requests. + Facilitate and conduct health and coded data quality improvement programs and projects. Required Experience: What You’ll Bring to CHA Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge is qualifying. + Bachelor’s degree in health information management (RHIA preferred), or a related field is preferred, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. + Minimum of five years of experience working with database products. + Knowledge of electronic medical record (EMR) systems and health information contained in records. + Knowledge of healthcare terminologies, classification systems, and payment systems (ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT / HCPCS, ICD-9-CM, APR-DRGs, MS-DRGs, RBRVS, SNOMED CT, LOINC, RXNorm). + Previous medical coding experience required (inpatient preferred) and knowledge of coding for health care reimbursement in various settings. + Strong analytical skills, and a basic understanding of SQL is preferred. + Excellent project and time management skills. + Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate with individuals at all levels. + Proactive problem-solving skills with the ability to investigate anomalies.
