About the Indiana Department of Insurance (IDOI): The purpose of the Indiana Department of Insurance is to protect Hoosiers as they purchase and use insurance products to keep their assets and their families from loss or harm. Consumers may need assistance with certain claim situations or just help in understanding how their policies work. Our other primary obligation is to monitor the financial solvency of the insurance companies domiciled in Indiana so that the legal promises made in insurance policies are honored. To these ends, our Department staff is committed to providing exceptional customer service for both our consumers and our companies, and to maintain a fair and objective viewpoint as we examine each issue and circumstance within our jurisdiction. Salary Statement: The salary for this position traditionally starts at $67,314.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience. A Day in the Life: The essential functions of this role are as follows: + Keep abreast of health insurance developments, trends, and issues in the industry and at the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) + Coordinate and monitor NAIC subgroup, work group, and task force calls + Advise leadership on arising developments, trends, and issues occurring in the healthcare space and possible impacts to the State of Indiana, the Indiana Department of Insurance, and other stakeholders + Develop a monthly policy publication for leadership that outlines developments, trends, potential concerns + Research, review, and provide comments pertaining to pending legislation, proposed bulletins, or special projects related to healthcare + Interpret and explain in-depth and complex policies, rules, regulations, or laws to organizations, government or corporate officials, or individuals + Serve as the main point of contact for Compliance during legislation session and maintain the Compliance legislative status document + Coordinate and organize proposed bills introduced during legislative session + Develop and supervise training of employees and consultants on program requirements and usage + Develop, coordinate, and deliver communication plans and communications + Recruit, select, onboard, and train employees to ensure role responsibilities and expectations are clearly understood while providing opportunities to continue professional development + Set expectations, measure progress, provide ongoing feedback, and evaluate the performance of employees. Ensure work adheres to quality standards, deadlines, and proper procedures + Complete ad hoc projects as assigned What You'll Need for Success: The ideal candidate in this role should minimally have either + a master’s degree and 5+ years of experience, or + a bachelor’s degree and 7+ years of experience, or + an associate degree and 9+ years of experience, or + at least 11+ years of experience applying the below, outlined knowledge, skills, and abilities in a similar role. Knowledge and familiarity with the Affordable Care Act would be beneficial. You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment: + Mastery knowledge in program subject matter obtained through experience and/or education + Broad knowledge of all source materials and references including federal and state laws governing the programs + Ability to adapt new statues and guidelines to create and implement new principles and policies and discern any far-reaching implications + Ability to present and represent the agency to the public, government officials, and other stakeholders + Analyze information and evaluating results to choose the best solution and solve problems + Ability to work effectively with a wide variety of stakeholders + Ability to delegate work, set clear direction, and manage workflow + Ability to effectively give feedback, provide guidance or corrective action, coach, and develop employee skillsets Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports: This role may provide direct supervision for one or more staff members.
