Your Role:

To be successful in this position, the candidate must be able to work independently to finish a wide array of regular tasks while being able to manage the competing objectives of disaster response and recovery projects which often occur without warning and generally with short notice.  The successful candidate will be amply qualified and experienced and be able to communicate effectively to corporate executives and unskilled field workers, both in written and oral forms.  In this business unit, the H&S functions as a support to operations.  As a result, the successful candidate will maintain tight lines of communication with Project Executives, Practice Managers and Project Managers to provide immediate awareness of incidents or safety/risk/liability concerns and recommended actions, to be approved by operational leadership. The position also entails both front-facing H&S field operations and back-office reporting requirements. This role will require attention to three imperatives for success: follow the chain of command, follow protocol, and follow the money.

TDR generally operates under a chain of command structure wherein information flows up the chain of command, among leadership and information/decisions flow down.  This creates a high-level of awareness at the leadership level and helps our organization function efficiently and effectively.  The successful candidate must follow the chain of command and stay in the health & safety lane.  As the leader in disaster response and recovery, TDR relies heavily on its protocols (SOPs, policies and procedures) which have been created over years of experience and are reviewed/refined annually.  The successful candidate must follow protocol.  TDR’s success has been due in part to the way it manages business and operations.  When we respond to a disaster, we grow in size to meet the needs of our clients.  When our work is finished, we dim the lights and work from a limited staff of dedicated full-time and part-time variable professionals.  The successful candidate will be able to recognize health & safety aspects which if modified or improved can reduce cost or preserve/grow revenue.  For example, better training may reduce incidents, but better field supervision may reinforce training which is already more than sufficient.  The successful candidate must be able to recognize opportunities for improved financial performance and follow the money.
