Health Technician (Behavioral Health)
Summary This position serves as a Health Technician within the Behavioral Health Department of the Pine Ridge Service Unit. The incumbent will assist in extending the scope of services by providing efficient and timely health care services to patients and clients. The position reports to the Behavioral Health Director. Responsibilities Obtains patient vitals, collects specimens, conducts drug screens, and performs Electrocardiogram (ECGs). Provides patient support services through completion of division forms, scheduling and modification of appointments, and serve through chaperone and observation services. Performs receptionist duties using a variety of automated systems for patient record maintenance, email correspondence, routine phone call initial assessments, populate staff reports, and file documentation and correspondence. Communicates clearly and precisely to patients in person, by phone, and email and written letter correspondence, provide to patients educational information, and respond to various department inquiries from facility staff, and other medical providers. Use of protective clothing or gear, such as masks, gowns, gloves, or shields will be required. Qualifications To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-05: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: answering patient phone calls, use of automated systems to type office correspondence, provide medical record maintenance, build labels, email inquiries, schedule patient appointments, cancellations or modifications of scheduled appointments, and greet patients. Or completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree, with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position. Or a combination of education and experience that when combined fully meet the minimum qualifications for this position. The total percentage equals at least 100 percent to qualify for this GS-05 grade level. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours of a course of study leading to a bachelor's degree is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirements. GS-06: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: obtain routine biometrics such as blood pressure, temperature, respiratory, heart rate, conduct urine drug test, perform Electrocardiogram (ECGs), visual examination, record test results to patient medical record, identify medical emergencies, direct and escort patients to higher level care. GS-07: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: perform medical test such as physiological measurements, explain medical process to patients and provide emotional support and reassurance to patients, review and obtain corrections to division forms, maintain complete, accurate, and timely records for all patients, validate biographic information to patient record, order office supplies, build purchase orders, deliver medications and supplies to patients within the medical clinic. Or completion of 1 year (18 semester hours) of graduate education that is directly related to the work of the position. Or a combination of education and experience that when combined fully meet the minimum qualifications for this position. The total percentage equals at least 100 percent to qualify for this GS-07 grade level. You must meet all qualification requirements by the respective cut-off date for application review.
