Summary The incumbent is a member of a patient care team that will perform basic care services and technical tasks under the direction of the Medical Doctor (MD)/Licensed Health Care Provider and under the supervisory direction of the Supervisory Registered Nurse. This position is in the Internal Medicine Outpatient Department and includes the Emergency Department, within the Division of Nursing, of Chinle Comprehensive Health Care Facility, Chinle, Arizona. Responsibilities Participates in pre-visit planning for scheduled patients. Conducts intake procedures, calls patient, observes patient's current condition and gait, patient identifiers, takes and records vital signs. Assess age-specific screening protocols. Performs less complex dressing and treatments without assistance. Obtains bacteriologic specimens such as sputum and clean-catch urine specimens. Administers oral medication, performs subcutaneous and intramuscular injections and immunizations as ordered. Assists with escorting/transporting stable patients to various hospital departments. Performs venipuncture of blood draws. Plans, organizes and allocates/adjusts resources in response to workload and priority changes. Qualifications To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS04: At least 6 months of general experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter of the position to be filled AND 6 months of specialized experience that has equipped me with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This specialized experience is related to the work of the position and equivalent to at least the GS-03 level in the Federal service as described in the vacancy announcement. Examples Include: Performing clinical duties; Observing patient's current condition; Preparing patients for provider visit; Assisting in inhalation therapy; Performing blood glucose testing, and other waived tests; Ensuring units are stocked; Performing vision screening OR Successful completion of 2 years of study that included at least 12 semester hours in subjects related to the position. GS05: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Assisting health care providers; Performing less complex dressing/treatments; taking vital signs; Interviewing patients; Administering oral medication; Assisting with escorting/transporting stable patients; collecting lab specimens; Performing blood draws. OR Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree, with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position AND SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR In addition to the minimum requirements, the following certification is determined to be essential to perform the duties and responsibilities of this position. Applicants must possess an educational achievement by a certified agency appointed to safeguard the public interest and provide proof of Certified Medical Assistant through a recognized training institute such as American Association of Medical Assistants or similar registered credential. Applicants who do not meet the selective placement factor are ineligible for further consideration. Completed a state-approved education program and pass the state's competency exam Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
