Health Unit Coordinator
**Overview** **Fairview is looking for a Health Unit Coordinator to join our ED team at our Fairview Ridges Hospital in Minneapolis, MN.** **Job Summary:** The Health Unit Coordinator is the primary receptionist and concierge for the unit. This role creates the “first impression” guests (patients or visitors) experience during their stay from the welcome and greeting; through the check in and checkout process. During the guest’s stay this position interacts closely with patients, families, physicians and the multidisciplinary team in a highly organized and professional manner. Ensures the exceptional patient experience is achieved by displaying effective customer service, problem solving and communication skills in a friendly, thoughtful and empathetic manner. Performs a variety of clerical functions including: managing patient charts, coordination of data flow and sharing of general hospital information/directions. **Schedule:** + 0.75 FTE (60 hours per pay period) + evening/night shifts + every third weekend **About the location:** For families and individuals living south of the Twin Cities metro area, the emergency department at M Health Fairview Ridges Hospital in Burnsville is a convenient option when you need care for an immediate or critical health concern. Our emergency medicine physicians, nurses, and medical staff can treat patients with any type of injury or emergency medical need. Our Ridges Hospital emergency care team is also highly experienced caring for children and teens. In fact, a portion of our emergency department is dedicated to pediatric patients. Ridges also has a pediatric inpatient unit staffed by pediatric hospitalists who are ready to provide high-quality care in a child-friendly setting. Our care portfolio includes community hospitals, academic hospitals, primary and specialty care clinics, senior facilities, facilitated living centers, rehabilitation centers, home health care services, counseling, pharmacies, and benefit management services. **Apply today to join our 34,000+ employees and 5,000+ system providers working to build lasting relationships with the people we serve: our patients, our communities, and each other. ** **Responsibilities Job Description** **Job Expectations:** **Patient & Guest Experience:** + **Greeting and Interacting:** Greet patients, visitors, physicians, and hospital personnel professionally and positively, utilizing ADIET (Acknowledge, Duration, Explanation, Thank You) skills. + **Prompt Response to Requests:** Answer patient call lights and intercoms promptly, ensuring that all requests are relayed in a timely manner. + **Phone Etiquette:** Answer phones promptly, courteously, and actively listen to customer needs, while anticipating how best to serve them. + **Confidentiality:** Protect patient privacy by maintaining confidentiality of protected health information in a highly visible setting. **Operational Coordination:** + **Meal Ordering:** Follow procedures to order patient meals daily, ensuring accuracy and satisfaction with dietary needs. + **Support for Care Staff:** Coordinate activities on the unit to help support patient care staff in fulfilling patient needs. + **Multitasking:** Demonstrate the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, especially in a busy and interruption-prone environment. + **Supplies Management:** Order and maintain an adequate stock of office and unit supplies, ensuring continuous availability. + **Telephone Management:** Take telephone messages and direct communication in a timely manner, ensuring all messages are addressed appropriately. + **Effective Communication:** Use communication systems efficiently to process both routine and emergency transactions. **Administrative & Information Management:** + **Maintain Unit Information:** Manage and protect confidential patient-related documents such as daily census sheets, brainboards, diet sheets, and schedules. + **Team Interactions:** Interact with healthcare team members, patients, and the public courteously and promptly, ensuring a collaborative environment. + **Maintain Cleanliness:** Ensure the nursing station desk and supply areas are orderly and clean. + **Scheduling Coordination:** Work with the charge nurse to coordinate scheduling for tests, patient events, lab work, and other department procedures. + **Collaborate with Nursing Staff:** Work collaboratively with nursing team members to ensure smooth operations and efficiency within the unit. **Medical Record Management:** + **Track Patient Data:** Manage the flow of medical records and data within the unit to support safe patient care processes. + **Prepare Medical Records:** Prepare patient medical records with the necessary forms and documents. + **Request Medical Reports:** Acquire medical report information as needed, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality. + **Process Patient Charts:** Handle patient charts for admissions, transfers, and discharges, ensuring all information is up-to-date and complete. + **Confidentiality:** Maintain strict confidentiality of patient information, sharing it only with those who have a legitimate need to know. + **Use of Computer Systems:** Accurately input and track patient data using computer systems to support patient care and safety. **Order Management:** + **Fulfilling Orders:** Ensure all physician orders are fulfilled, including necessary equipment and services, within the scope of responsibilities. + **Order Accuracy:** Double-check orders for accuracy and report any changes or issues with healthcare providers to ensure patient safety and care quality. This role plays a vital part in both the administrative and patient experience aspects of the unit, contributing to the efficiency of the department while ensuring the highest standards of patient care and confidentiality.
