Heart Team Scrub

Position Summary: Under the supervision of the nursing department’s management, the RN assumes the responsibility for the nursing processes of assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation needed to deliver safe, evidence based care within their scope of practice.

Responsibilities:

Checks supplies and equipment needed for surgical procedure Scrubs, gowns and gloves Sets up sterile table with instruments, supplies, equipment, and medications/solutions needed for procedure Performs appropriate counts with circulator prior to the operation and before incision is closed Gowns and gloves surgeon and assistants Helps in draping sterile field Passes instruments, etc., to surgeon during procedure Maintains highest standard of sterile technique during procedure Prepares sterile dressings Cleans and prepares instruments for terminal sterilization Assists other members of team with terminal cleaning of room Assists in prepping room for the next patient Assist in line management and placement Knowledge of first assist and scrub role Assist in off pump and on pump cases Maintains multiple back tables in a sterile manner Collects and assesses initial and on-going data about the health status of the patient.

Qualifications: 

Required:

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the State of Kansas or Certified Scrub Technician certification BSN required or must obtain within 4 years of employment Five or more years of direct scrub related experience in hospital, surgery center or military background can be substituted for RN or CST credential In-depth knowledge of vascular and cardiac anatomy Knowledge of general nursing theory and practice Knowledge of principles, methods and techniques involved in performing general nursing services and adapting or modifying standards of nursing practices for care of specific medical cases. As of June 1,2016 ACLS certification required or must obtain within one year of employment. Certified Scrub Technician are excempt from ACLS requirement due to certificatation being outside scope of practice. BLS certification required or must complete BLS certification with in the first two weeks of employment

Preferred:

Certified OR Nurse (CNOR)

Infection Control: Initial and Ongoing training in dealing with infection control. Trainings could include but are not limited to, blood borne pathogens, bodily fluids and bio hazardous materials as it applies to your daily work environment.

HIPAA: This position will have access to the following Protected Health Information in order to carry out the duties related to their position at Hays Medical Center based on the following criteria:
Primary – required (routine) to do the job;
Secondary – required for the job, but mostly be exception; and
None – no approved access
