Purpose of Role: Set up, operate, or tends heating equipment, such as heat-treating furnaces, flame-hardening machines, induction machines, soaking pits, or vacuum equipment to temper, harden, anneal, or heat-treat metal objects.

Key Responsibilities:

Reads production schedules and work orders to determine processing sequences, furnace temperatures, and heat cycle requirements for objects to be heat-treated.

Records times that parts are removed from furnaces to document that objects have attained specified temperatures for specified times.

Sets up and operates or tends machines, such as furnaces, baths, flame-hardening machines, and electronic induction machines that harden, anneal, and heat-treat metal.

Performs visual and hands-on parts inspection.

Determines types and temperatures of baths and quenching media needed to attain specified part hardness, toughness, and ductility, using heat-treating charts and knowledge of methods, equipment, and metals.

Using a forklift, or by hand, removes parts from furnaces after specified times, and air dries or cools parts in water, oil brine, or other baths.

Execute and sustain performance relative to established processes, safety documents, and work instructions

Job Knowledge/Education and Qualifications:

Experience in a foundry or manufacturing environment preferred

Able to learn about alloys and metal specifications

Able to work with exposure to extreme heat from hot molten metal

Good physical agility and coordination

Extensive walking, upper body strength and good lifting technique is required
