The City of Stockton is currently recruiting for the position of (HVAC Mechanic. There is currently one (1) vacancy in the Public Works Department. Incumbents will work a 9/80 schedule: Monday through Thursday 6:00 am - 3:30 pm and Fridays 6:00 am - 2:30 pm, with alternating Fridays off.
Prior to appointment, eligible candidates will be required to submit and successfully pass a background investigation, which will include fingerprinting and a medical examination which includes a back evaluation.
CLASS CHARACTERISTICS
This is a skilled, journey level class and incumbents must be capable of independently performing the full range of assigned craft duties. It is distinguished from Facilities Maintenance Supervisor, which is a first line supervisory level, because incumbents in that class are responsible for supervising various building repair, maintenance and/or janitorial service activities as well as heating and air conditioning maintenance activities.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Experience:
Possession of a high school diploma or GED and four (4) years of experience in the maintenance and repair of commercial heating and air conditioning equipment, or completion of a recognized apprenticeship program in the HVAC trade.
Other Requirements:
+ Must possess a valid California driver’s license.
+ Must possess a valid Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Chlorofluorocarbon (CFC)/Hydrochlorofluorocarbon (HCFC) Universal or Type III refrigerant processing certificate.
+ Must possess sufficient strength and stamina to lift and carry objects weighing up to 100 pounds.
+ Must be willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions and to respond to emergency situations in off-hours as necessary.
The Examination:
Applicants who qualify in terms of relevant work experience and education will be invited to participate in the examination process. The examination process may include a training and evaluation examination or practical examination weighted a total of 100%. However, the City reserves the right to utilize alternative testing methods if deemed necessary. Candidates must receive a minimum passing score of 70%, as determined by the relative performance of all candidates in all portions of the examination. In the event of identical ratings, candidates' names will be arranged in order of application date/time, and, if the same, then arranged alphabetically.
