Caterpillar Power Solutions Northwest in Ferndale, Washington is currently seeking a student enrolled at a two-year technical college to work side by side senior mechanics.

Caterpillar Power Solutions Northwest (PSNW) is focused on developing heavy-duty, spark ignited engines. PSNW works to develop new technologies and next generation engines with the goals of reducing the products carbon footprint, increasing its performance, and lowering emissions. At the PSNW test facility outside of Bellingham, Washington, engineers specialize in using single cylinder engine testing combined with detailed analysis, 1D engine models, and 3D CFD simulation tools to provide optimized combustion system solutions for Caterpillars Large Power Systems Division.

What You Will Do -

As a Heavy Duty Engine Mechanic Intern, you will complete mechanics work to support engine testing for product development and facility operations at PSNW. This will include engine hardware changes on heavy duty industrial gas engines (heads, pistons, camshafts, liners, etc.) using prototype hardware, maintenance on facility equipment, and upgrades to existing test cells and facility. As you excel through the program, you will get the opportunity to expand into instrumentation and fabrication as dictated by your skills, experience, and interests.

This is a part-time (up to 32 hours per week) position starting in the spring of 2025 and will transition to a full-time (40 hours per week) assignment during the summer. This position can continue up until graduation.

Internship Qualifications:

Must be enrolled full-time at a two-year technical college in one of the following degree programs: Diesel Technology or Automotive TechnologyMinimum cumulative Grade Point Average of 2.5/4.0 scale (no rounding) at current institutionMust be within a commutable distance to the Ferndale, Washington facility (30-miles or less)Expected graduation date of May 2026 and beyond

Summary Pay Range:

$25.00 - $43.00
