Job Title Heavy Equipment Instructor - West Texas Agency Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service Department Infrastructure Training And Safety Institute Proposed Minimum Salary Commensurate Job Location Odessa, Texas Job Type Temporary/Casual Staff (Fixed Term) Job Description Agency Instructor I - Heavy Equipment 2 positions to be filled Temporary/Casual Position (Part-Time) Must be located in West Texas per: Map of the Regions of Texas (texascounties.net) $40.00 per hour The Agency Instructor I, under direction, assists in training various specialty skilled and/or semi-skilled courses within a specified program. Utilizes knowledge of adult learning theories and learning styles to help maximize learner success and ensure overall effectiveness of the course instruction. Performs online and/or classroom instruction, field-based skills training, and/or may provide technical assistance in a specialty area. Uses a variety of media to present course material. May assist in creating new and/or updating curriculum content, when necessary, to meet learner needs. This position reports to the Training Manager, Transportation & Heavy Equipment. Required Qualifications: + High School Diploma or GED. + Four years of heavy equipment operations experience to include experience on two or more of the following: Aerial Work Platforms, Backhoe, Bulldozer, Dump Truck, Excavator, Forklift, Front End Loader, Maintainer, and Skid Steer. + One year of adult education and/or training. Required Licenses/Certifications: + Must have a valid motor vehicle operator’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment. Preferred Qualifications: + Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university. + Fluency in both English and Spanish, with excellent written and verbal communication. + Valid Texas Commercial Driver License. + Ten years of heavy equipment experience three or more of the following: Asphalt Distributor, Backhoe, Dozer, Maintainer, Excavator, Front End Loader, Skid Steer, Forklift, Aerial Work Platforms, Crane, Roller, Dump Truck. + Knowledge of and/or certifications in Highway Safety and Traffic control. Physical Requirements: + Ability to lift and/or move heavy objects and/or wear personal protective gear during instruction. + Ability to work in adverse weather conditions during instruction. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: + Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. + Strong verbal and written communication skills. + Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality. + Strong interpersonal and organizational skills. + Ability to actively demonstrate the TEEX Values – Safety, Teamwork, Adaptability, Respect, and Stewardship. + Demonstrated positive attitude and work ethic. + Ability to exhibit punctuality by arriving to work and scheduled events on time. Equipment: + Standard office equipment: computer, keyboard, multifunctional printer, telephone. + PPE if needed. Notifications: + This position is security sensitive. + This position may require work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends. + This position requires compliance with state and federal laws/codes and Texas A&M University System/TEEX regulations and procedures. + All tasks and job responsibilities must be performed safely without injury to self or others in compliance with System and Agency safety requirements. + Ability to travel independently to other and/or remote locations by driving a personal or TEEX vehicle and/or flying on commercial airlines. + This position allows telecommuting per TEEX guidelines. + This position is funded from grant and/or contract funding, which is renewed through provisions of the grantor of the contract. Therefore, this position is contingent upon continuation of funding from these grants and/or contracts, as well as satisfactory job performance. + This is a wage position established to accommodate a temporary organizational need. As such, TEEX does not guarantee any set number of hours or length of employment in this role. + Candidates must live in the Western Region 9 of Texas. Essential Duties, Tasks, and Percentages: Classroom Instruction - 80% + Ensures class documentation is completed in an accurate and timely manner in accordance with Division Guidance, Agency and Contractual requirements (if applicable). + Assists the Training Manager/Coordinator with Customer Interactions. + Assists in the marketing of Division programs and events to potential customers and students. + Ensures requests for travel and post travel claim documentation are completed in an accurate and timely manner in accordance with Division and Agency guidance. Programmatic Support – 20% + Ensures class documentation is completed in an accurate and timely manner in accordance with Division Guidance, Agency and Contractual requirements (if applicable). + Assists the Training Manager/Coordinator with Customer Interactions. + Assists in the marketing of Division programs and events to potential customers and students. + Ensures requests for travel and post travel claim documentation are completed in an accurate and timely manner in accordance with Division and Agency guidance. Additional Program/Division Responsibilities: + Participates in professional development opportunities. + Involvement with Agency Initiatives (CoP’s, etc.). + Maintains and safeguards assigned divisional equipment and property. + Maintains a clean and neat appearance. + Maintains orderly and clean workspace. + Performs other duties as assigned.
