Heavy Equipment Mechanic
You are a Heavy Equipment & Fleet Mechanic, and you will be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing Vermeer directional drilling and trenching equipment, as well as a variety of trucks, trailers, mini excavators, and hydraulic vacuum trailers. This position ensures the safe and efficient operation of company-owned DOT and non-DOT vehicles while maintaining accurate service records and cost tracking. The role requires strong mechanical expertise, proficiency with computerized maintenance tracking systems, and the ability to request and manage purchase orders for parts and repairs.

Essential Responsibilities:

Performs routine maintenance and repairs on Vermeer directional drills, trenching equipment, mini excavators, hydraulic vacuum trailers, and fleet vehicles 

Diagnoses and troubleshoots mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues on heavy equipment and trucks 

Maintains DOT-regulated vehicles, including oil changes, brake jobs, minor hydraulic repairs, and other required servicing 

Utilizes computerized maintenance tracking systems to log work orders, record costs, and manage scheduled maintenance 

Requests and tracks purchase orders for parts, tools, and repairs, ensuring cost-effective maintenance solutions 

Assists with shop organization, safety compliance, and proper waste disposal 

Qualifications:

2 or more years of experience working as a mechanic on heavy equipment and fleet vehicles 

Experience servicing and repairing Vermeer directional drilling and trenching equipment 

Knowledge of hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems 

Valid Class A or B CDL with Tanker and Airbrake endorsements is a plus 

Must have and maintain a clean driver’s abstract 

Work Conditions:

Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including the ability to lift 75 lbs. on a regular basis 

Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, snow, and sleet) and perform work on uneven surfaces
