Heavy Equipment Mechanic (EAGLE 2025-22714):

 

Bowhead seeks a Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our team in support of the Maintenance and Supply Divisions at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Aberdeen, MD.  The Heavy Equipment Mechanic is responsible for a variety of tasks supporting many departments but typical duties   include analyzing malfunctions and repairing and rebuilding heavy equipment. 

Responsibilities

Essential functions will include: 

Analyzing malfunctions and repairs, rebuilds and maintains heavy equipment, such as cranes, power shovels, scrapers, paving machines, motor graders, trench-digging machines, conveyors, bulldozers, dredges, pumps, compressors, and pneumatic toolssOperating and inspecting machines or equipment to diagnose defects.Dismantling and reassembling equipment, using hoists and hand tools Examining parts for damage or excessive wear, using micrometers and gauges Replacing defective engines and subassemblies, such as transmissions Testing and overhauling equipment to insure operating efficiency Welds broken partsIdentifying parts required for repairs using repair manuals, end item tech support or Internet search Cleaning parts and assembles and disassembles equipment Other duties as assigned Qualifications A high school diploma or equivalent is required in addition to at least two (2+) years’ experience as a heavy equipment mechanic AND at least two (2+) years of experience as a qualified welder is required Must possess a valid state Commercial Driver License (CDL) with acceptable driving record pertinent to the position, or be able to obtain a valid state CDL within 90 days of hiring.  Must maintain the CDL and an acceptable driving record during the duration of employment Must possess and maintain welding qualification in accordance with American Welding Society (AWS) standards for the equipment and material utilized Any prior experience with government contracts and locations is helpful  Basic to intermediate level skills in Microsoft Office software suite - Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint  Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and outside contacts  Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment with the ability to work alone or as part of a team 

 

Physical Demands:

 

Lift/carry/push/slide up to 50 pounds routinely.Bend, squat, stoop, crouch, and lean.Sit for long periods of time operating a computer keyboard.Repeat the same movements.Exposure to excessive noise.

 

 

SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to obtain a security clearance at the Public Trust level. Due to the location of this work, U.S. citizenship is required.  Bowhead reserves the right to change this requirement if necessitated by business needs or contractual obligations.
