Heavy Equipment Operator- AK Remote

Overview:

Operation of on tundra approved equipment; Steigers, Tuckers, Dozers, Sno-Cats and Loaders in support environmental restoration projects and well plugging on the North Slope.

Primary Responsibilities:

Operate and help maintain heavy equipment. Daily inspections and reporting of equipment condition. Tracking and reporting fuel use for the equipment. Other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibilities:

There are no supervisory responsibilities associated with this position.

Education and/or Experience:

High school diploma or GED preferred 5 years of experience operating Experience operating other types of construction equipment is a plus. Experience working with safety equipment preferred (fall protection, eye protection, hearing protection, insect protection, etc.).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Applicant must demonstrate safe operation and knowledge of the equipment at all times.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Valid Driver’s License North Slope Training Corporative (NSTC) Current 40-hour Hazwopper certification within last 5 years recommended.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to be able to stand; walk; sit; use hands to handle tools and controls; operate vehicles and equipment, reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop; kneel; see, talk, hear. The employee must occasionally lift and or move up to 60 pounds for 50 feet. Job requires the ability to perform tasks on all areas and aspects of the projects.

Work Environment:

Projects will be in remote Alaskan locations and will include exposure to extreme temperatures. Travel to the job site by air craft. The work will be outdoors during the Arctic Winter including extreme cold, high winds, snow. Equipment will be working near and supported by other ground forces. Work will be performed near moving mechanical parts and/or vibration as well as areas with high noise hazards. Work may occur in areas with fumes or airborne particles or electrical shock hazards. Projects will be in various remote sites. Accommodations will be in contractor provided sled camps.

Arctic Gear:

Operators must supply their own personal arctic gear (Boots, Jacket, Parka, Bibs or Suit adequate to work in the extreme cold that reaches ambient -50° F or more at times and wind chill down to -80°F or more.   

Standard PPE provided by OOS: Green Ape work gloves with liners, hearing protection, safety glasses, fall protection, hard hats with liners etc. Extra facemasks are also on hand in the event of a lost or damaged mask. 

Special PPE is provided by OOS depending on the work being performed.

Examples: Culinary gloves, hair nets, face mask for cooks and cleaning staff, Fire coat & Protective Visor for Incinerator operation and Insulated rubber gloves for full time fuelers etc.
