Job Overview Under direction of the Facility Supervisor, the Heavy Equipment Mechanic analyzes malfunctions and repairs, rebuilds and maintains various barriers such as, grab – nets, pop ups and portables on manufacturers such as Nasatka, B & B Armor and Barrier One. The Mechanic operates and inspects machines and equipment in order to diagnose defects; dismantles and reassembles equipment using hoists and hand tools; examines parts for damage or excessive wear using micrometers and gauges; replaces defective parts and tests overhauled equipment to insure operating efficiency and dependability. Work Model: Onsite/Office-Based Responsibilities Essential Duties & Job Functions: Troubleshoots, repairs, replaces and/or installs various barriers, controls and equipment. Schedules and performs preventative maintenance and service calls on equipment Provides preventive maintenance, emergency response, equipment start-up and/or field modification. Discusses with technical support problems related to maintenance or operation of equipment. Interprets wiring diagrams in order to locate failures. Plans and lays out work from blueprints, drawings, models and verbal and written instructions. Uses a variety of hand tools, portable power tools and standard measuring instruments. Plans, organizes work and meets all deadlines. Able to do a variety of tasks in any single day. Coordinates with other trade and warehouse personnel the identification of proper and correct materials, parts assemblies and requirements for a variety of requisitions necessary for the job/task. Helps perform periodic stock inventories and prepare material requisitions for replacement items as required. Operates Government or Chugach owned motor vehicles and/or other equipment. Performs various lower classified duties such as (but not limited to) file maintenance, workspace cleanup, maintain warehouse space and telephone answering as required. Adheres to the established safety and personnel policies and standard operating procedures. Ability to work overtime as needed Performs other duties as assigned. Job Requirements Mandatory: High school graduate or equivalent GED. Five (5) years of experience in the hydraulics and heavy equipment operation service and maintenance trade. Two (2) years of experience in the maintenance field. Ability to read trouble shooting devices such as volt-ohm and amp meters, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and charts. Extensive knowledge of hand and power tools. Ability to maintain, troubleshoot and repair electrical, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems and components for heavy duty equipment. Must have general mechanical and electrical ability. Extensive knowledge of applicable codes and standards. Ability to deal with a variety of people in a professional, courteous manner in diversified situations. Mature judgment and ability to work with minimal supervision. Familiarity with applicable codes and standards. Ability to pass pre-hire background and drug screen. U.S. Citizenship. Ability to obtain and maintain the required intelligence community level clearance. Valid state driver’s license with suitable driving record. Ability to lift 50 pounds and team lift 75 pounds.
