Heavy Mobile Equipment Repairer
Summary The primary purpose is to perform maintenance, repair, and modification of heavy-duty vehicles and mobile equipment which have utility systems, or special hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, electrical or electronic systems, features, or controls designed for such purposes as construction, earth moving and comparable applications. Responsibilities As a Heavy Mobile Equipment Repairer for equipment maintenance this position is to perform maintenance and repair work on automobiles, trucks, tractors and other heavy equipment including gasoline, diesel engines and other mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical and electronically controlled systems. The incumbent will be responsible for maintenance and repair to park vehicles and large and small construction equipment. Prepare daily and monthly reports using the computer with such programs as Word, Excel and the Facility Management Software Systems. Complete requisitions for parts and supplies. Troubleshoots and repairs components and systems such as engines, transmissions, differentials, transaxles, hydraulics, electronic fuel injection, emissions systems Incumbent will also be responsible for inspecting, repairing and overhauling small and large engines and other components on items such as lawn mowers, weed eaters, chainsaws, pumps, ATV's and all other related park equipment. Removes and installs accessory items, such as lights, radios, gun racks, toolboxes and ladder racks. Some positions may involve maintenance way of work on the Cuyahoga Valley National Railroad which includes equipment operations, mechanical repairs, mowing along the railroad, clearing line of sights, tree trimming, and removal. Incumbent doing maintenance way of work is subject to mandatory pre-employment drug and alcohol testing and random drug and alcohol testing per the regulations established by the Federal Railroad Authority. This position will be located in the Maintenance Division at the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. It has been established to provide the park with maintenance and repair of fleet vehicles, small engine and heavy equipment within the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. The employee works under the direct supervision of the Engineering Equipment Operator Supervisor. Prior to your first official motor vehicle operation, and again every year thereafter (or more frequently if management determines such need exists), you will be required to sign an affidavit certifying to your possession of a valid State issued driver's license that is current and has not been revoked, suspended, canceled, or otherwise disqualified in any way to prohibit your operation of a motor vehicle. You will also submit a photocopy of your valid State issued driver's license prior to your first official motor vehicle operation, and again every year, or more frequently if management determines such need exists. Lastly, you may be required to submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that discloses all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you. Qualifications To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors: Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (SCREEN OUT) Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprints reading) Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation Repair, etc. Technical Practices (theoretical precise, artistic) Trouble shooting Use of Measuring Instructions SCRENOUT: Must be able to perform tasks as a Heavy Mobile Equipment Repairer providing preventative maintenance, troubleshooting / diagnosis, and providing reliable repairs for a variety of motorized equipment such as: fleet vehicles which include gasoline, diesel, electric, and hybrid sedans, vans, 4x4 pickups, and SUV's; engineering equipment including dump trucks, backhoes, and loaders; rotary snow bowers, with diesel engines; generators with hydrostatic drive electrical system and all associated equipment and electronics; snow machines, and power generation systems. Physical Demands: The incumbent is required to make repairs which often require them to work in tiring, awkward, and uncomfortable positions, and the work performed frequently involves standing for long periods of time, bending, stooping, crawling under vehicles, and making repairs in other tight spaces. The incumbent frequently lifts, handles, and carries parts and equipment weighing up to 40 pounds, and occasionally moves moderately heavy items weighing up to 50 pounds with assistance or with mechanical devices. Working Conditions: Work is usually performed inside on concrete surfaces where there is exposure to drafts, noise, - and fumes from vehicles. Occasionally the work may be performed outside under adverse weather conditions. The incumbent is continually exposed to dirt, dust and grease. The potential for bums, chemical irritations, shocks, bruises, cuts, and strains. To reduce the dangers and irritations from these conditions, the incumbent-follows prescribed safety practice and uses safety equipment such as safety shoes and glasses, and respirators. This position requires wearing the National Park Service uniform. All employees are required to wear the uniform in accordance with guidelines, maintain personal appearance standards, and ensure proper conduct while in uniform. A uniform allowance is provided.
