Heavy Truck Driver
Overview ***This position is physically located in Iraq in support of LOGCAP*** Under the supervision of the Warehouse Supervisor, the Heavy Truck Driver is required to operate Tractor Trailer vehicles, MHE and other heavy equipment as required to support deliveries and receipts of equipment for the DS Warehouse, Bottled Water and ICE Plant on the LOGCAP V contract. Responsibilities This position description is subject to change at any time as needed to meet the requirements of the program or company. Load and unload trucks, or help others with loading and unloading, operating any special loading-related equipment on vehicles and using other equipment as necessary. Maintain logs of working hours and of vehicle service and repair status, following applicable local, state and federal regulations Maneuver trucks into loading or unloading positions, following signals from loading crew as needed; check that vehicle position is correct and any special loading equipment is properly positioned Obtain receipts or signatures when loads are delivered, and collect payment for services when required. Read bills of lading to determine assignment details. Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to the vehicles. Secure cargo for transport, using ropes, blocks, chain, binders, and/or covers. Follow special procedures related to specific cargo, such as checking refrigeration systems when carrying frozen goods Assist personnel who are packing goods and moving them onto trailers. Check vehicles before driving them to ensure that mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order. Check all load-related documentation to ensure that it is complete and accurate. Check conditions of trailers after contents have been unloaded to ensure that there has been no damage Climb ladders to inspect loads after loading is complete, in order to ensure that cargo is secure. Collect delivery instructions from appropriate sources, verifying instructions and routes. Couple and uncouple trailers by changing trailer jack positions, connecting or disconnecting air and electrical lines, and manipulating fifth-wheel locks. Crank trailer landing gear up and down to safely secure vehicles. Drive trucks with capacities greater than 3 tons, including tractor-trailer combinations, in order to transport and deliver products or other materials. Follow appropriate safety procedures when transporting goods. Inventory and inspect goods to be moved, in order to determine quantities and conditions. Place empty carts and pallets in trailers so they will be available to facilitate placement and movement of goods. Read and interpret maps in order to determine vehicle routes. Remove any debris from trailers after loading is completed. This position description is subject to change at any time as needed to meet the requirements of the program or company. Perform other duties assigned. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: Education/Certifications: One-year related experience may be substituted for one year of education, if degree is required. Must be CAC eligible and/or able to obtain a Common Access Card (CAC) Must be a U.S. Citizen A valid driver’s license and the ability to obtain a U.S. Government Motor Vehicle Operator’s License and Host nation Heavy Duty Driver’s License. Licenses/Certifications: CDL or equivalent required Experience: 3 Years’ Experience in driving heavy equipment Skills: Leadership and management skills, including a professional demeanor, are required. Strong interpersonal skills are required. Ability to exercise discretion and good judgment is required. Ability to prioritize responsibilities in order to handle a demanding workload is required. Attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy is required. Advanced ability to communicate in English, both verbally and in written form, is required. High-level organizational and planning skills, so that workflow is managed efficiently and accurately is required Basic proficiency in Word, Excel, and Outlook applications is required. Working Conditions: Must be capable of working in an extreme weather conditions with temperatures exceeding 120 degrees Fahrenheit. Indoor and/or outdoor environment with very adverse and harsh conditions (i.e., hot, dry, duty, desert environment with average temperatures of 30 degrees in the winter and 130 degrees in the summer months). Includes some industrial production environment conditions as well. Physical Requirements: Heavy work. Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Employee use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required for some situations. PPE includes, but is not limited to, head, foot, torso, respiratory, vision, and hearing protective devices.
