Helper
GFL ENVIRONMENTAL, INC.
The Helper will safely assist drivers and other employees in the collection of solid waste materials from a residential truck.
Key Responsibilities:
Collect solid waste and recyclable materials from customer premises or curbside (if applicable).Load waste into the designated areas of the collection vehicle.Sort recyclables and ensure correct placement into appropriate vehicle compartments.Assist the driver in vehicle operation, especially during backing up and maneuvering in tight spaces.Operate on-board equipment to compact waste into the vehicle.Audit and verify the truck's equipment prior to departure, ensuring readiness for collection.Address customer-related issues promptly and report to the driver.Identify and remove prohibited waste items, notifying the driver when necessary.Adhere to all safety protocols, including wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE).Maintain a professional demeanor when interacting with customers and the public.Assist in vehicle cleanliness, as well as other tasks such as sorting, cleaning carts, or operating equipment like the cardboard compactor.Attend safety meetings and contribute to discussions on operational improvements.Perform additional duties as requested by management.Requirements:
High school diploma or GED is preferred but not required.1 to 3 months of related experience or training preferred, but not required.A valid driver’s license is preferred but not required.Must meet safety-sensitive criteria as outlined by company standards.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively with others.Ability to follow instructions and perform tasks with limited supervision.Skill in operating the necessary equipment and machinery.Physical and Mental Demands:
Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and lift for up to 90% of the workday in an outdoor environment.Frequent use of hands, kneeling, crawling, and climbing as needed.Must be able to manually lift and move up to 65 pounds regularly and up to 100 pounds with assistance.Visual requirements include close and distant vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to focus.Working Conditions:
Exposure to various weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, etc.) and environmental factors (loud noise, fumes, airborne particles).Work primarily outdoors, with frequent contact with moving mechanical parts and other potential hazards.Continuous operation in traffic conditions and high-traffic routes.Occasional work in high, precarious places.#GFLTalent
