Physician Affiliate Group of New York (PAGNY) is adding a Hematologist/Oncologist to the group at NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem. The Hospital is part of the  NYC Health + Hospitals. Harlem Hospital is a designated Level 1 Trauma Center and is recognized for providing centers of excellence in the areas of Bariatric Surgery, Breast Imaging and Sexual Assault Forensics. Our teams provide services for nearly 213,000 outpatient visits, more than 83,000 emergency room visits and over 13,000 inpatient admissions annually. The hospital maintains a strong academic affiliation with Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons. To maintain its high healthcare delivery standards.

This position is part of the New York City Care Initiative.  New York City Mayor Bill deBlasio announced he will be bringing "universal health care" to America's biggest city through a program called NYC Care.  The city will connect hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers who are ineligible for health insurance - including undocumented New Yorkers and those who cannot afford insurance - to reliable care.  Anyone will be able to access comprehensive care across NYC Health + Hospitals' more than 70+ locations once the program is fully ramped up.  NYC Care will provide a Primary Care doctor and access to specialty care, prescription drugs, mental health services, hospitalization and more.     

Responsibilities

We are seeking a specialized candidate for the role of Hematologist/Oncologist. This is a NYC Care position. Duties include:

Consult with patients with hematological disordersPrescribe medicationsCreate a robust sickle cell programTeach medical students and residents as well as providing consultation to other specialties

Additionally, the Hematologist/Oncologist must be a good listener, who is attentive to the concerns of patients, an excellent communicator and proficient in hematological procedures.

The Hematologist/Oncologist will serve several purposes, including:

Diagnose and treat blood disorders involving anomalies of the blood cells, bone marrow, and other organs that are engaged in the synthesis of bloodConduct wide-ranging research toward the prevention and the treatment of blood disorders like, anemia, sickle-cell disease, leukemia, and hemophiliaEducate and impart their expertise to medical residents, students, other physicians, and various medical professionalsProvide consultation in both the inpatient and outpatient settingsWill help develop a robust sickle cell program and to assist in the transition of sickle cell patients from pediatrics to adult medicineWill have excellent communication skills and educated in cultural sensitivity and implicit biasWill be involved in scholarly activity as related to hematological conditions with special emphasis on sickle cell disease Qualifications Medical Degree with specialization in Hematology/OncologyCompletion of all three parts of the US Medical Licensing examCompletion of Fellowship training in Hematology/OncologyCompetency in Hematology/Oncology proceduresActive medical license in the state of New YorkExcellent written and verbal communication skillsGood interpersonal skillsVery good teaching skills
