The Clinical Specialist, Pharmacist provides comprehensive medication management services that integrate clinical services, order management, patient/staff education and research. Clinical Specialists are responsible for improving the patient’s experience, safety, and achieving positive clinical and financial outcomes. This position is responsible to an immediate supervisor/manager.

Major Responsibilities:The Clinical Specialist, Pharmacist meets all the major responsibilities job requirements of the Clinical Pharmacist plus the following major responsibilities:Maintains an active practice in a specialized or focused areaContinuous contribution to new clinical service or project that directly impacts patient outcomes/safety, cost containment or process improvementActively participates and/or leads hospital based interdisciplinary committee(s) and/or taskforces in a specialized or focused practice areaDevelops and maintains clinical practice guidelines, interdisciplinary policies and standard operating proceduresSupports resident or other research projects and/or quality improvement initiatives and engages in opportunities for publicationPosition Qualifications:License/Certification/Education:Required:Doctor of Pharmacy Degree and completion of an ASHP accredited residency, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.Obtained nationally recognized certification (e.g., board certification) in his/her area of specialty, when available.Preferred:Certificates, grants, fellowship or honors earned in the relevant practice area, teaching accomplishments or research endeavors.Experience/Skills:Required:Completed an ASHP-accredited PGY2 residency plus one year of specialty practice OR completed an ASHP-accredited PGY1 residency plus 3 years of specialty practice OR completed 5 years of practice in a specialty areaCompleted a project management course or led a major project in his/her area of specialty.Preferred:Publications in professional journals and/or presentations at professional meetings.Active participation in professional organizations at the local and national levels.
